PSP vs DS no flames

Seriously, if you want to exercise in the bathroom (I honestly don't go against anyone who does, since it's actually HEALTHY to do every now and then. LADIES TOO), then by all means go ahead. Just not in front of me (unless you're a good looking lady) and not looking at anime/video game characters. That's just...wrong.

btw, Square Enix, AS I SAID 1 MILLION TIMES BEFORE, is 3rd party. PSP doesn't have an advantage min this as SE could very well make VII on DS. However, DS doesn't have the advantage either as the reverse could also happen.

Actually, Sony does have an advantage with Square-Enix. First of all, the PSP can actually handle a port of FF7. DS carts only hold 128mb of data, so you are out of luck with that(considering that FF7 is over 2000mb). FF8/9 is over 3000mb....
No chance there. Heres a possibility: DS will get Final Fantasy 1-6 because it can handle it(plus those were originally for Nintendo), and PSP will get Final Fantasy 7-9(or maybe 10 and 10-2 also).
Umm, trying to show some good sportsmanship here...

Anyways, my second point is that Sony still has huge ties with Square Enix. Far bigger than its ties with Nintendo (currently). And please don't flame me on this, because you know its true.

As with a port, things can be change. Things can be dumbed downed and worked to fix it. And you cannot tell me that any final fantasy game is bigger than Animal Crossing. AC is the biggest GCN game ever, it takes up every block in a memory card.

So? The GCN disc only holds 1.5GB.
Thats still not as large as a PS1 Final Fantasy game, let alone a PS2 Final Fantasy game.

Edit: Did some research.
Animal Crossing == 16MB
Thats right, 16 measely MB.

By comparison~
Final Fantasy 7 == 1489Mb
Final Fantasy 8 == 1856Mb
Final Fantasy 9 == 1704MB

My figures come from the game ISO's themselves. Actual filesize.
So there ya go

Dakota, don't know where you got this from... Animal Crossing, or Animal Forest as it was in Japan, was on the N64. Apart from a few features added, the game plays and runs exactly the same. Bear in mind FF7 moved from N64 to PlayStation because of the size difference.

Ok, in terms of playability and game life, Animal Crossing is loads bigger, but the actual size in bytes is a lot smaller.

No wonder you can take the disc out and be fine with AC, 16 MB? O_o; Wow.
If the DS did get I-VI that'd be pretty cool IMO, but I doubt they're going to re-release them again, when they haven't even done VII-IX yet. I just hope they do better ports than some…people… *cough Metriod Zero Mission/Mother 1 and 2*

Yup. Unless Nintendo has some way of "cart switching" possible with discs, the DS will have much smaller games than PSP (wasn't that an arguement I had before?), considering that the PSP can STILL do the disc-switching style to fit games like FF7 (btw, LFP, I guess the research from a1337a is quite off from your estimates. Just next time maybe not give out estimates that are too large...it's enough to just say it's much larger). Good job there, a1337a. lol

Those estimates were based on a normal disc size. I was thinking about 700-800MB per disc, but I just checked each disc on my computer, and they are mostly 450-600 per disc. Anyways... Even if DS could switch carts, I wouldn't bother to change my cart 12 times for one game.

And the FF games could probably get watered down(cut a few fmvs, and stuff) to fit on one disc. I bet, that FFX and X-2 could probably get a couple FMVS cut, and a small cut in quality(it wont make that much of a difference on such a small screeen anyways), so that they could get put onto PSP. Or, they could make FFX/X-2 a two-UMD game.

Naw. I'm thinking obviously reving up the FMVs and stuff (so it won't be as much of a port).
For some reason, I think they will be able to do that, and still fit it onto one UMD...

[random]Its a psychic kinda thing. XD
*Slaps Dakota* don't exersize in the bathroom at PC
PSP is better than NDS and there is a dog on the loose in the museum. Third time's a charm![/randomness]

sorry I need to get the randomness out of me somehow

You see, that's where I beg to differ. I'd rather a remake than a port for FF7. it's just...the Chrono Trigger system's been overused.
I wouldn't like a remake, because it would take far too long. If the port had really good graphics and FMVs and stuff, then I wouldn't mind.

Chrono Trigger's system has been overused? I don't get what you mean by that.

The battle system. FF7 used the same battle system as Chrono Trigger (same with MANY RPG games of that time...because it was the best system to use at that time). However, the customization of characters I liked (that is the materia system. CT actually didn't really have anything there...I don't even recall a class system or anything). It's JUST the battle system that I don't like, since it was overused back in the day. It should retire. I mean, now we have half-decent battle systems like the real-time one taken by ToS (modification of the old ToP system), or the no-battle screen system taken by Kingdom Hearts, or the old-skool strat/turn based system taken from Fire Emblem...just not the old active/wait system that's been overused (like the FF1 turn-based system).

FFX's CTB was pretty original, and I liked it. Didn't require quick inputs either like the ATB system. And then there's Chrono Cross, which had a bunch of new ideas for battle systems, and it worked pretty well. Save reallocating all the low elements, twas pretty smooth. And definitely easier for someone more casual to pick up, without levels and whatnot.

I liked the ATB, it required quick thinking and made gameplay more spontaneous. Of course, I died alot more because of it, but it gave me a challenge. The materia system made sense to me, and gave a reason to why theres so much magic going on, unlike in other games, and it tied in alot with the storyline.

FFX's system really confused me at first... A bunch of spheres and stuff... when I first played the game, it seemed to me that it all was based on a ball. XD
