Ok, so I know from the very title some of you are going to be skeptical, but hear me out. And remember, this is just my theory.

I'll start with something that is probably the weirdest part of this theory. Every time you buy a Pokémon game, you create a new universe, a parallel timeline in the Pokémon series. Now this may seem weird, but it does make a little bit of sense, with the right reasoning. Let's start here, in our world. And in our world, let's jump into a theory that has been around for quite some time. It's often referred to as Schrödinger's Cat. For those of you who have not studied Quantum Physics let me explain this for you. The theory states that until an event is observed, the event will exist as a combination of states all corresponding to different possible outcomes. So, let me further explain this by detailing Schrödinger's thought experiment. A Meowth, a flask of poison and a radioactive substance are all placed into a sealed box, into which no one can see. When the radioactive substance is detected the flask is smashed, releasing the poison. At this point there are two possible outcomes for the Meowth; it is either alive or dead. However, until the Meowth is observed, the Meowth is represented as being both alive and dead.

In this instance two possibilities are collapsed into one when the outcome is observed. So you open the box and find the Meowth alive and well, the radioactive substance having strengthened the Meowth so it can survive. But in another universe, a parallel universe, another version of you opens the box to find the Meowth dead, the poison having reached it first. This sounds rather morbid, but I am going somewhere with this. This would mean that whenever there is an event with two or more possible outcomes, a parallel universe would be created so that all possible outcomes occur. But of course then all these parallel universes will be almost exactly the same, with minor differences among them. For example, where certain Pokémon can be found, which legendary Pokémon is picked as the evil team's target, and even if thousands of Pokémon died when AZ uses the machine or didn't.

But this extends further when it is revealed in Pokémon OR/AS that the device that would open up the portal to another world to send the meteorite away is called a 'Link Cable'. A device we Pokémon gamers have been using to communicate between games for years. A device that has allowed us gamers to communicate between different worlds, and different universes in the Pokémon series. And the world this Link Cable would send the meteorite to Zinnia claims to be a Hoenn almost identical to the one in OR/AS, but where Mega Evolution hasn't been discovered yet, pointing multiple fingers at the original Ruby and Sapphire, where we didn't yet have Mega Evolution. And this also supports the fact that in Pokémon X/Y we have a different source of power for Mega Evolution than in OR/AS.

The list of weird occurrences in Pokémon that could relate to a multiple universe theory goes on, and I don't want to list them all. But you can see that separating every game bought by every player in the world into it's own unique universe would explain why the same Main Character takes on various different names, catches different Pokémon, uses different moves travels different ways, names his Rival various different things.

Well, I think I've about exhausted this theory now. I'm sure other people have thought the same, and probably also the complete opposite. This is here as a discussion point. So what do you think? Is this too abstract, or does it have a good footing in explaining various phenomena in the Pokémon world? Discuss :D

This is a great theory I'd say. If you want to somehow explain and make sense of the pokemon world, history and versions, this is the best way to do it :3

Game Theory already beat you to it, unless that was what inspired you to make this thread:

There a few things he's stated that are wrong such as the timeline, but the rest of it is spot on.

It especially makes sense since Zinnia came into the picture. I haven't played ORAS, mind you, I've just heard about what she says.

Well I never said I was the only one. But yeah, that video did inspire me to make this, as most of what was said I had already thought about. I always take his videos with a pinch of salt however, since he does sometimes get things wrong, but I like the theories. And I want to take this further, and apply all science to the Pokémon world to see how far I can get, and what I can explain. When I have time though ;)
