3rd Gen Question about breeding

Hello, I was playing fire red when I wanted to breed for an adamant magikarp and there was no way to succeed. And yet I was breeding with an adamant Ditto holding everstone. I thought that would give me a 50% chance of getting a magikarp with an adamant nature.

Does this only work for emerald?

I searched around and I seemed to find out that the everstone system only works in emerald and in games from the fourth gen onwards.

Yes, that was introduced in Emerald, and so was the Flame Body trick (where having a Pokemon with Flame Body or Magma Armor in your party halved the steps needed to hatch an egg).

It seems to only work for Emerald, according to what I've found.
