Just as I was going to sleep last night I found out Four Tops member Duke Fakir passed away from heart failure.
The Four Tops meant so much to both myself and my partner. We are absolutely gutted.
What made them special to me, besides their incredible music, was that they always stuck together through thick and thin, high and low, success and down times, they were true brothers until the very end. They were an example that few friendships - never mind other music groups - could ever live up to.
I'll never forget how beautiful his harmony vocals were, even when his bandmates departed one by one for the other side and he heartbreakingly had to learn to sing with new people, or how nice he was personally even when he was tired from constant touring, or how he accidently started a lifelong love of a drink I'd never tried before one night in a cocktail bar.
Duke was the final original member of the Four Tops to pass, and now, at last, they can all be together once again, making sweet, sweet, music in the great beyond. I will raise a strawberry daiquiri for you tonight Duke, for all of you. RIP to a legend.
