Rap compared to Rock

Rock vs. Rap... they aren't topping each other, they are just good in thier own right! ~__~ People have different opinions anyways.. But that doesn't mean you have to flame a certain genre of music because you don't like it! xD; ~origin

the whole point of the reason why we're "flaming" (debating is a more suitable word) each other is to force our way of belief into the other person.

hmm, this'll be a nice change of pace. i agree with all of jasonresno's arguments so far. though people are being too general i think. rap isn't always a load of ghetto guys cursing to beats and rock isn't always 3 chords heavily distorted with screaming. everything has variation. there is plenty of intelligence and creativity in rap lyrics (just not a lot of the popular ones) and rock has branched off in at least... i'd say 50 subgenres, so there is pretty much nothing they all have in common. my favorite rock band doesn't have a guitar. another band i like a lot has no vocals.

1) No if you read the posts closely you started the arguing of the definiton of cliche, and I also used "uncliche" because when you said the line "rappa ghetto supafreaks." it was uncalled for.

oook let's keep it civil. rock is prefered to rap in general because, in general....... it's better. well, that's something of a bold statement. music can be defined as good if it's: meaningful, moving, complex, or if i say it's good. REAL rock is all of these things. there are substandard forms of rock, but in general, rock is above the par of normal music. unfortunatly, rap is under par. a guy at school gave me 2 gigs of rap so i could 'expand my musical taste', i listened to EVERY SONG on it, and found 5 that i liked. that's like 5/500 or 1/100 or 1%... that's not too impressive...

Rock is crap. I hate Everything Rock,or "punk". I Hate Green Day,I hate "Good" Charlotte,I hate Manson,and My Chemical Romance...god,why would you use chemicals to find romance? Anyway,Rap is #1 in my book,if you check Billboard.com and check the top singles,CANDY SHOP-50 Cent ft. Oliva is at #1,and it's on the Hip-Hop singles,most of the songs are 50 Cent/The Game.

First of all, do not ever in your life bash rock. And dont ever bash My Chemical Romance. Incase you didnt know, it's just a freakin name. You dont see 50 Cent poor and only living off of 50 cents XD And The Game. Is he a game? Or is he a rapper? Just like with My Chemical Romance, they only have weird names. Dont take it so f*cking literal.

Also, with the Billboard thing, For every rap song up there, there are at least 3 rock songs, like jasonresno said.

--I would say the poll is proof. I would say the probably 90% of PCs members are proof. I would say the at least 3 to 1 ratio of good rock bands to even average rap bands is proof. :)

ok, here's an argument that won't really help anything. america's culture is built on jazz. rock is built on jazz. rap is not built on jazz. rock therefore, is more truely american. rap is also an american style of music, however it is not as close to "real american music" as rock is. that doesn't really prove much, but our ancestors and founding fathers would probably have liked rock better. ya, i can see thomas jefferson digging led zep.
