I am looking for a way to control my computer with a remote from the TV when I have my computer plugged in with my HDMI cable. I know there are remotes to use with computers but you have to point them at the computer. What i want is to point it at the TV and control my computer from using the remote with the TV. Anyone know anything that'll do this?

There's a protocol for passing signals such as the remote control through HDMI which is called HDMI-CEC. Most graphics cards don't support this though, so you're left with buying an adapter
This implementation has a lot of issues depending on what you want to use the remote for as far as I can see from some quick Googling. It will definitely work for XBMC/Kodi as well as Windows Media Center, so for a HTPC this would definitely be a viable solution, but if you want to use it for anything else, you're pretty much out of luck with this configuration, at least as far as my (limited) Googling has gotten me

Do you have any more specific details on what this will be used for? Is this for a dedicated HTPC or just something you want to casually plug a laptop in to?
