    hey there sexy people :pink_love:

feedback; i want to talk about removing old threads/inactive ones from boards.
now i am not sure if it happens in every single board on here but i have always wondered ever since the day i got here why so many boards only got 1 or 2 pages worth of threads and thats it
for ones who not notice, i do notice because one of my threads is not in one board anymore and i find it a bit sad because i like to talk about the subject and wanted to read back and post in it again
(i know there is the rule of not posting in an old thread and i guess that is why threads get removed but just hear me out :P)

where is the fun in that?
i am guessing this is done because the staff or owner wants to keep a clean look and does not want a clutter looking forum... ok i can understand that
BUT on the other hand, i also think it is kind of silly.
because of this i bet some nice / interesting threads sometimes get removed just like that and i do not get why... are we suppose to start the same thread again?
what if the owner of the threads likes to read back or wants to say more.... and what about the fact others who register now, who came in a little late, they do not get to join in the conversations because of that

if it is all about keeping the looks of this place clean, why does it have to go like this? whilst typing this i start to wonder something else... why do we even bother starting a thread we think is interesting if it is going to be removed from our eyes eventually anyway and only because for a while people do not keep it alive, is that really fair? is that really what a forum is about? ;)

suggestion; why not move them all to an visible archive for all members and if the owner or other people would like to revive a thread, they can request it
because right now i do not see where them threads are going to really.... if they moved at all, for all i know they actually get deleted? (although i do doubt it because i bet that would decrease the post stats/count of this forum and nobody really wants that right?)

It's very rare for threads to be deleted and I'm sure no moderator is removing/deleting threads for a "clean look". Are you sure the reason you can't see your thread is because it's been over a certain time period? Some sections only display threads that have been active in the past one or two months by default. You can change this from the Display Options at the bottom of a section.

    LOL
what a noob am i {XD} totally forgot about that, forgive me folks
    oopsy^_^
    thank you

BUT even though it is not gone , i am still not allowed to post it my thread anymore because of the 30 day rule.... and that is actually the second main thing i tried to talk about it
why? why are we suppose to start something new, now especially if it is still right there ~_~ whats the use of that?
like all the posts, effort and time in that certain thread are just lost for good, just like that?

The fact of the matter is that for a lot of forums on this site, a 30 day period will have 1-2 pages worth of threads to search for. For a good majority of users - coming from a person who once was a Moderator and enjoys analyzing social tendencies - they will only contribute to threads that are on that first page (most of the time actually being the top part of the page to be perfectly honest.) People aren't going to want to have to search multiple pages worth of threads in order to make sure they aren't posting about a thread that already exists (if the rule was to change to 30+ days, as then two of the same thread topic can't exist at the same time.)

Yes, it might be sentimental for owners to want to continue their threads, but honestly if the OP of a thread has let their thread sit there for 30+ days then I honestly do not believe that they care as much for the thread as you make them out to be. Furthermore, I want to say only a very, very small percantage of users actually search threads that are past the "Last Month" standard display setting embeded (and I think that's being generous.)

But to sum up, like I said, most (sub)forums on this site's threads are within the 30 days. Actually, I want to say that it's autocoded so the threads that pop up are within the 30 day grace period anyways (unless you changed your general settings to a new "showing thread" setting.)

It depends on the section, usually if a discussion thread is several months old it's better to just post a new one. Some sections have no such rule, and ROM Hacking, for example, lets thread owners revive their hack threads if they wish to.

If you really think your thread would be better off being revived rather than you having to create new one, contact that section's moderator. They might even agree with you to keep the thread open!

    alright
    thanks !
it is what it is i suppose, there is nothing much i can do, after all this is just one opinion
i am just glad not all forums have this rule :P

    i guess this can be locked now lol{:3}

If you don't want to lose track of old threads without manually having to change the display options every time, you can also change the "Default Thread Age Cut Off" to all threads under "Edit options" on your dashboard. :)

It's also fair to say that if threads are remade rather than revived, that gives some people a chance to post again because their opinions may have changed. And that's a lot less awkward than posting a second time in a thread and having to explain about how you've already posted in it once but wanna renege on what you said, and this is why, etc. Also not everyone would bother posting a second time, they'd just skip over it. So giving people a fresh start for a thread helps in some ways.
