countryemo, if you're still deciding or have bought your disk or whatever, I can vouch for my above method as I just replaced my Toshiba NB205's old HDD with an Intel Cherryville SSD. DD was a bit retarded and tried to read until the end of the drive anyway (my HDD was 40GB larger than the SSD), but I have an MBR so it didn't matter - even if you have a GPT partitioning scheme the partition map at the end of the drive is just for recovery purposes so it's not like your drive will kaput without it... yeah.
