Request an Individual Moveset / Incomplete Team Help Thread

Would it be possible to get a good moveset and some EV's for a Exploud and a Lanturn please? :) Thanks!

Ok i just recently (in the past few months) started learning more about EV's and breeding, etc and i've been getting into competitive play
What i wanted to ask is i have a (incomplete) team that i wanted to ask whether it was good or not for competitive play. Also if anyone knows any pokemon/moves that would further completement my team. Any comments or suggestions are welcome :D

Fortress (Defensive Wall) [Leftovers]
252 Ev HP
252 EV Def
6 EV Atk
Moveset: Earthquake
Stealth Rock
Explosion
Rapid Spin

Fortress is pretty self-explanatory. I'm thinking of leading off with him and throwing up stealth rock first thing. Then depending on the pokemon I can either switch or try to do some damage with earthquake. I'll try to keep him alive though so that I can rapid spin and get rid of any stealth rock/spikes I get thrown on me. Explosion could be used when appropriate.

Charizard (Special Sweeper) [Leftovers]
252 Ev SAtk
252 Ev Spd
6 Ev HP
Moveset: Dragon Pulse
Focus Blast
Air Slash
Flamethrower

Charizard is also pretty self-explanatory. Basically just kill with Flamethrowers/Air Slash since they're both special moves and i get STAB bonuses from them. Dragon Pulse is to kill any dragon types and is just a pretty handy back up. And Focus Blast is to get rid of any pesky rock types since I'm 400% weak, and also for normal type tanks like Snorlax and Blissey.

Scyther (Physical Sweeper) [Focus Sash]
252 Ev Atk
252 Ev Spd
6 Ev HP
Moveset: Swords Dance
Aerial Ace
X-Scissor
Substitue (I'm thinking of changing this one, got any suggestions?)

Scyther is just a common physical sweeper. My original plan was to start off with substitue to prevent any status effects my opponet could throw at me first turn and to ensure I get atleast 1 swords dance. BUT, my line of thinking is starting to change so I'm thinking of replacing that move. Basically, just swords dance it up (have the sash to protect me and ensure i get atleast 1 SD) and then sweep through with aerial ace/ xscissor.

Lapras (Special Sweeper)
252 EV HP
252 EV Satk
6 EV Speed
Moveset: Ice Beam
Surf
Body Slam
Confuse Ray

Lapras is pretty cool. He's going to have over 450 HP so he can DEFIENTLY take a hit, and his defenses aren't lacking. Basically just confuse the enemy first turn and then judging by the type either kill with ice beam or surf. Body slam is just there for the paralyze when needed. Pretty straightforward.

This is all I ave so far, like I said I'm pretty new to this so helpful suggestions and etc would be apprecriated. If you know any moves or pokemon or items or anything really that could help me please feel free to voice your opinion :D
Thanks

Here's a moveset I came up with:

Flame Orb/Toxic Orb Noctowl:

Nature: Calm
Ability: Insomnia
Item: Flame Orb/Toxic Orb
EVs: HP 252 SpD 252 Spe 6
Protect
Psycho Shift
Night Shade
Reflect / Roost

Strategy: Protect on the first turn and await the Orb to activate. Then use Psycho Shift to give the status problem to the opponent. Night Shade is there for basic damage. In the fourth slot, I recommend either Reflect or Roost. Reflect can be used to cripple physical attackers even further, while roost work better against special attackers. This set has a little problem against normal types, but just set up barrier and give them status problems before you switch out.

Please tell me what you all think.

I'd say for lanturn (special sweeper) [Leftovers]
Calm, Volt Absorb Ability
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 Sp.D / 80 Def
Moveset: Surf
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave

Basically just rush in there with a T-wave and hope for a few parahax. Surf and Thunderbolt you get STAB bonuses from so you can sweep through lots of pokemon with just those two moves. Ice Beam can sweep through about the rest of them, the only pokemon that cant really be hit by lanturn with this moveset is shedinja.

Cons: lanturn has poor speed

For Exploud (physical sweeper) [Leftovers/Choice Specs]
252 Ev ATk
252 Ev Spd
6 Ev HP
Moveset: Hyper Voice
Shadow Ball
Focus Punch
Surf

Basically you just sweep through with Hyper Voice since you get a STAB bonus from it. Exploud is actually a pretty powerful pokemon. Steel can be countered with Focus Punch, Rocks can be beat with surf (or some type of physical water move) and shadow ball can take on ghosts. Pretty standard normal type sweeper

This is a great Noctowl set but i think there might be just a few problems. Normal poison isn't that great, so unless your keeping noctowl in for a long time i'd say go flame orb. So basically what i would do was just protect and then roost when protect fails as many times as possible. Wait for flame orb to activate and then psycho shift. Only thing is this noctowl seems to be more of a status inflicter, so why have night shade at all? I'd say take it out and get barrier AND roost, then just switch out after his job is complete.

As you mentioned, you gain EVs whenever you gain experience fin battles. Also keep in mind that all fresh Pokemon that haven't battled yet start out with 0 EVs. Therefore, lv. 1, right after they hatch, is the best time to start EV training since they haven't gained any EVs yet. If you don't want to immediately start for some reason, you could always just leave them in the Day Care for a while, but you might risk losing some Egg Moves in the process.
Thanxs jigglypuff.

Now what I must ask here is, how do I go about of training my newly hatched Pokemon since at lv.1 they pose hardly no threat to EV distributors I need to fight? Can I use exp. share and then defeat whatever Pokemon I need with someone stronger, then my lv 1 Pokemon will gain the EV?

Yes you can. To avoid any further confusion, the both the Pokemon in battle and the Pokemon holding the EXP.SHARE will receive full points (meaning they are not split between the two).

What are the leading pokemons I need to wacth out for
in OU?
To the surfing Pikadude:
Yep, Exp.share will get your pokemon Exp.points.
But what I usually do is to give my Lv.1 pokemon
a item that boosts the EV amount that it gets,
& carry a LOT of pokedolls in case I don't run into
the pokemon that gives the EVs I want.
When I do run into the pokemon that gives the
EVs I want, I swicth my Lv.1 to a stronger pokemon
that can KO the wild pokemon. This reduce the time
I have to send EV training.

You seriously do not know how much you guys have helped me, I appreciate that a lot. I do not mean to persist here, but just to get things straight, this is what I would do in preparation for EV Training:

1. I have my LV. 1 Pokemon as my "go-to" guy to battle.
2. Equip LV. 1 Pokemon with Macho Brace to double EVs if I'm correct.
3. Switch LV. 1 Pokemon with a stronger one to KO the EV Pokemon.

Correct? I'm too broke to buy stat boosters so I will just do without them.

To Surfing Pikachu (Not intending to put the caps in right places for a reason >_>)

That is pretty much what you have to do. However, I strongly prefer the use of the Power Bracer/band/anklet/whatever else there is much more. They give 4 extra EVs to a certain stat, depending on what the power item is designed to give.

Also, if you ever get the Pokerus, then you're in a lot of luck since it doubles the EVs you acquire.

Let's take a look: You fight a Gyarados, which gives 2 attack EVs. If you have the Power Bracer attached as well (gives +4 attack EVs per battle), and you destroy said Gyarados, you're getting 2+4 = 6 x 2 = 12 EVs per fight...that's a lot when considering the slow rate of EV training.

Note: If this is for R/S/E by chance, then disregard what I've said above.

Its for Platinum. The best I can do now is Macho Brace.

Just to make sure, Macho Brace doubles EV corrects? So I plan to EV train my Magby for Special Attack. I plan to go to the Resort Area as there is a pool which gives Golducks who then give 2 EV's for Special Attack. So with Macho Brace I will be getting 4 EV's per battle, giving me one full stat for Magby's Special Attack in the long run.

So 252 EV's per max stat...4 EV's per battle...252/4=63 Golducks I have to defeat for Magby's Sp. Attack to be maxed?

Was my calculations right?

Awesome, thanks Ethan! Will start training for those now.
You could use shoddy to test it out...Also a few things:

The Exploud spread he gave is better with Overheat than Focus Punch for steels, and every single move there is a SPECIAL move so 252 atk evs do nothing. Put them in Special attack.

You shouldn't be switching Noctowl in to something that could 2HKO it so protect really isn't necessary. Night Shade, however, is because not having it makes him insanely taunt weak and not able to fulfill his special wall role. Replace Protect with Reflect or Whirlwind to make him better.

Sorry Hazzamon, this thread's only for competitive advice. In-game teams don't really belong here.

And WaterGod, you're better off running Timid on Mr. Mime, Alakazam and Gengar as they are fragile and really need to outspeed whatever they can.

Oops sorry, I'll delete my post then.

Spoiler:

Well, your calculations are half-right. Beating 63 Golducks (who give 2 EVs in sp. atk) while holding the Macho Brace and having Pokerus would actually give you 504 EVs in sp. atk, way beyond the limit. If you said Psyduck (who gives 1 EV in sp. atk), you would be right with the calculation. On the other hand, if you were to beat 31 Golducks with the Macho Brace and another one without it, you'd have 252 EVs.

Still, 63/32 Pokemon is a lot of Pokemon to be KOing. I suggest beat the Battle Tower a few times so that you have enough BP to get the 6 Power Items. These give 4 extra EVs in a stat specified by the item. The Power Lens, for example, give 4 extra EVs in sp. atk. Beating a Bidoof (1 HP EV) while holding this would yield 1 HP EV and 4 sp. atk EVs (with Pokerus: 2 HP EVs, 8 Sp. atk EVs). Beating a Psyduck with this would yield 5 sp. atk EVs (with Pokerus: 10 sp. atk EVs). With Pokerus and the Power item, you'd only have to KO 25 Psyduck while holding it and 1 without it to get 252 EVs (10 x 25 = 250 + 2 = 252).

As for your money woes, by the Backlot Mansion (Route 212) there is a Gentleman and a Sociallette who use a Chatot and Roselia respectively, relatively easy Pokemon to beat. When you've beat them enough times in Vs. Seeker rematches, they'll each start giving you more than

10000. With the amulet coin, they'll give more than

20000. This is a useful thing to do in with the battles it takes to spread Pokerus to other Pokemon. After a few rounds, you should be able to afford enough Vitamins (HP Up, Protein, etc). Note that each one gives 10 EVs and that you can only use them up to 10 times in a stat, so that means 100 free EVs in a stat.

Was this helpful or just much more information than you wanted?

You could use this set =/

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Nature : Careful
Ev : 252 HP/164 Def/96 SpD
Ability : Synchronize

-Payback
-Toxic
-Taunt/Protect
-Wish

Standard support Umberon with Speed EV's moved into defence because you wanted a mixed wall :)

ok i havent trained it yet so i will make those changes..thx

Could someone help me with a shaymin counter that could fit in on a stall UU team?

Regice and Registeel could work as checks, they resist Seed Flare and won't have their special defense lowered because of clear body. Both could maybe work well with stall, but idk, that's just one idea =P
