What will make you restart a game? Do you do it at all, or is the post E4 game and making pro-battling teams your main goal?
These days, I tend to buy both versions of each game (and then the "special" version), and use one as a holding pen, and the other as my replay cartridge. For me, replays are my main fun, since I'm not a competitive battler, and especially since I discovered the awesomeness of challenge runs. Even restarting a half-done game doesn't matter, because I can just trade over my guys, if I'm fond of them.
Back in the day when I only had one Gameboy and no one to trade with, I could never restart a just-finished game, I'd always have to let it sit for some time until my attachment to my pokemon had worn off.
The other side of that is if I put down a half-finished game for too long, that attachement also wore off and I'd just restart anyway.
I don't think I've ever restarted out of frustration, though, or specifically dump and restart a file to re-tweak my team (which happens to me in a game like Final Fantasy Tactics).
