Restarting your game

What will make you restart a game? Do you do it at all, or is the post E4 game and making pro-battling teams your main goal?

These days, I tend to buy both versions of each game (and then the "special" version), and use one as a holding pen, and the other as my replay cartridge. For me, replays are my main fun, since I'm not a competitive battler, and especially since I discovered the awesomeness of challenge runs. Even restarting a half-done game doesn't matter, because I can just trade over my guys, if I'm fond of them.

Back in the day when I only had one Gameboy and no one to trade with, I could never restart a just-finished game, I'd always have to let it sit for some time until my attachment to my pokemon had worn off.

The other side of that is if I put down a half-finished game for too long, that attachement also wore off and I'd just restart anyway.

I don't think I've ever restarted out of frustration, though, or specifically dump and restart a file to re-tweak my team (which happens to me in a game like Final Fantasy Tactics).

I too couldn't restart back in the days when I had only one gameboy and no one to play with, was too attached to my pokemon. Today I only restart if I haven't played in a long time and if it's one of my not-needed files (like my platinum). My Pearl will never get restarted because it's my pride and joy, and I've done so much and have so many memories with it. This will be the case with black version. The first version of a new gen I get never is restarted. Maybe I'll change this attitude of mine someday, but for now, nope. :)

I've pretty much restarted every pokemon game I've ever had, but I've always had another game and system to be able to trade them over to a "hold" game.

I restart my games periodically just so I can restart the adventure. I get bored after defeating the Elite 4 (and in the case of GSC/HGSS, defeating Kanto) because there's not much else to do and I'm not particularly interested in competitive battling or going to the Battle Frontier or whatever.

Perhaps one day I'll do a challenge run, once I get tired of repeating the same adventure over and over. :>

I hate restarting my games. I get so attached to the pokemon I train. I've only restarted the games I never finished. Like, I never beat the Elite Four in my Sapphire version so I restarted it after not playing it for a few years.

I never restart my main games. I have special one for restarting that I use for challenges and stuff.

I'll restart the game if I want to start the adventure over again. However, before I do this I usually transfer my pokemon over to a different game that I don t plan on restarting.

I restart my game only if I finished everything and have nothing else to do~ I've only restarted 1 game in my whole entire life and that is Pokemon White~ But I regret doing so because I miss all the rare items I found with the dowsing machine and the rare Pokemon I caught~ :(

In Pokemon Diamond, I restarted the game after I went to Stark Mountain.
When I restarted I picked Piplup instead of Turtwig
Then I restarted AGAIN, after I beated the elite four
    And picked Chimchar

But I always have my Lucario =P

I never restart my game, as I spend much time in them.
That's why having a flashcart for multiple copies of your game is that handy:
You can have different save files.

(And yes, I buy games before I download them, unlike others, because I like the box and guidebook (or something) of a game)

I don't restart any game that I've put a lot of effort into completing stuff in (i.e., my complete Pokedex and storage game Platinum). But sometimes I do have the urge to play through a game again and fortunately my brother has multiple copies of games that I can do this with (since he constantly restarts those games himself) so I don't have to delete my main save data in Platinum.

Trade my stuff to my storage game, then restart for a challenge or if I just wanna go through the adventure again. That's pretty much how I do it.

No way im restarted my Pearl. i got all 493 pokemon (no cheats) and its really fun even after the E4! The only reason i restart a game is to win a bet, my brother and i make :P

Well my blue, silver and gold versions all got restarts because the battery died so when I replaced the battery I had to restart. My other blue was restarted so that I could give my red version all of the starter pokemon. That's about it right now.

I usually restart a game when I want to play through the whole game from start to finish, or I don't like where my last save left off at. I rarely play my hard copies of my games anymore, I usually just play them on my PC. Better resolution, like the keyboard controls better, and I can play it at school too.

I rarely restart my games. I do the same thing as most people here - trade them all to the storage version and keep the other one free for do-overs, but I like to make it into a humongus project: I create a Pokemon army.

Basically the concept is to get one of each fully-evolved Pokemon in the Pokedex and raise it into its 70s or 80s, or at the very least until it has learned its last move, so that I can truly become the greatest Pokemon trainer of all time. Since it's too hard to do this all on one version, because after all the trainers are battled there is nothing else but wild pokemon and the occasional rebattle, I start the other version over with a different six Pokemon each time and raise them from the ground up.

Normally, I don't like restarting my games, but when I do, I do it out of boredom, just to see what an alternative outcome would be if I went with a different starter.

I don't do much postgame stuff, but I don't restart my games either. :( I tend to get way too attached to my teams and I feel guilty if I send them to another game to hold on to since then they never get used.

Chances are I'll import Pokemon to BW with Platinum and if I ever feel like restarting gen 4, I'll do it with that one. I'm way too attached to everything about my Diamond version to do it there though,
