Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire introduced Ribbons, items you could affix to your Pokemon to indicate a particular achievement. These were greatly expanded on during Generation 4, mysteriously removed for the most part during Generation 5 (although still present in game coding), and made a modest return in Generation 6. The most notable Ribbons from Generation 3 seem to be:
-the numerous Contest Ribbons: 5 per Contest attribute/category, with 1 Ribbon designated for each Rank
-the Effort Ribbon (which assists in tracking Effort Values, although I'm unsure if it's still needed)
-the Artist Ribbon (given to Pokemon that get Contest portraits placed in Lilycove Art Museum)
-the "Victory" Ribbons (awarded within the Battle Tower for beating 56 Trainers in the Level 50 or Open Level Courses)
Similarly, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 introduced Medals (also returning in Pokemon X and Y), which instead signify player achievements as opposed to feats of any single Pokemon.
Do you enjoy the concepts of Ribbons and Medals! Do you think that Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire should introduce any new Ribbons and Medals, or remove any older ones?
My remarks:
I loved the idea of Ribbons, and I hope that more are introduced; there were a lot of unused Generation 3 which have pretty artwork that never got put to good use.. :( Ribbons for Pokemon Video Game Championships (maybe for the next 5-8 years, until the next generation of Pokemon is released?) would be great.
I feel that all of the Hoenn Battle Facilities should award the "Victory Ribbon" once you achieve a predetermined goal (like beating 50 Trainers), but only for the Open Level/Level 100 course (I feel that that course is the "true" challenge...not to mention that a lot of the Pokemon that you start out with at the beginning of the game may be beyond Level 50 by the time you unlock the Battle Frontier, so they miss out on an opportunity to up their Medal count..in contrast, the Open Level course doesn't impose such a limit, so practicalyl any non-banned Pokemon can earn the Victory Ribbon regardless of Level). I'm not sure how I feel about multiple Modes getting their own designated Ribbon (like Sinnoh/Johto's Battle Tower, IIRC)..
Wow, I just learned that all "Contest" Ribbons and "Tower" Ribbons get consolidated in Generation 6... I think I'm opposed to the consolidation of Contest Ribbons but I don't mind "Tower" Ribbons getting consolidated.. Hopefully, OR/AS gives you a Ribbon for each Contest Rank once again (alternatively, just have 5 Ribbons for the 5 Contest Categories. As your Pokemon advances in Contest Ranks, your Ribbon gets "modified/embellished" into the final Master Rank form).

As for Medals, maybe actions like talking to the "White Rock" constantly, checking the Mossdeep Space Center count repeatedly, entering the Lilycove Lottery a lot, talking on TV a lot, and actually visiting Mirage Island or catching a Shiny Pokemon could net one some medals? Beating the Hoenn Battle Frontier by getting all Silver/Gold Symbols would have to count for sure, as well as beating 50/100 Trainers consecutively in the Battle Tower (which earns you the Silver/Gold Shield, as well).
