So, do any of you play Risk? What strategies do you use? Who/where do you play? Discuss.

I've played Risk once and... that was definitely enough times for me. That's not to say that it isn't a fun game, but after 8 hours of non-stop strategizing and conquering and defeat and dice rolls and other stuff. By the 5th hour, I was trying so hard to get out of the game as it had just turned my friends and I into zombies! I get how people can have a really good time with this, and it's definitely not the game's fault: it's ours! Still, I can say that I have played Risk and cross it off my bucket list! :P

I play online at majorcommand.com, and the games there take like 60-90 minutes. It goes a lot faster when you don't have to deal with all the pieces and cards, etc. I have won a couple times, but I normally lose because I end up being to nice to people...XD

I always go for North America, there are only three ways to get in, and if you can sting popular South America, Europe, and give those fools fighting in Asia trouble. And once you gain SA, there are still only 3 access points.

Oh, and I play risk on the computer. Against AI the games take about 7 minutes, and I always win. But against other people, it goes about 60 minutes, and I lose after 45 sometimes. I do win sometimes though.

Yes, yes, yes! I've been playing this game for years with my parents and cousins, and I'm teaching my daughter to play now. I know the idea is kind of violent and grim, but it's still good fun for the whole family. I usually try to hold down Australia because there's only one way to attack it, and spread myself across eastern Asia into the Americas. The bonus for Asia is nice, but it's just so hard to hold down, especially if you have six players.

I have to agree with you on Asia there. It just isn't even worth it most of the time. Normally, I will go for anywhere but Australia and Asia since Asia is so hard to keep and Australia because someone else always gets there first. XD But I normally try to go for one of the Americas or Europe, assuming all goes well.

In the game I played yesterday I took control of Africa, then slowly built my way up to Europe, which was easily defended since I could be attacked at only 2 sides. then South-America was slightly problematic, because my sister defending it kept rolling 66. But I did manage to get that too and win the game!

i love this game but i don't know anyone with the attention span or the skills to play this game. sometimes i'll play risk against the AI on pogo but the dice rolls are totally fixed in favor of the AI 75% of the time it kinda sucks... still love it enough to play there though

It completely depends on where I start. I've had games where I own 3/4 of South America, in which case I'd take over the 4th country. I usually try to grab Australia if I can though, because it is really easy to defend, and most people won't sacrifice THAT big of an army to stop you from getting 2 extra troops per turn.

I play on conquerclub.com off and on. But when I'm on, I'm really, really on. Conquerclub is good for people who don't want to sit there for 7 hours playing one game too, because dice rolls and troop reduction and stuff gets taken care of automatically, and you have 24 hours to take a turn, so you can take yours and go do whatever you want to with your day while everyone else is moving.
