This team is built around resisting every threat thrown at it and dealing damage passively while staying healthy. When enough damage is spread across the board, the sole sweeper can clean up.

I think I use a couple of cliché strategies but they are cliché because they work well and cohesively and that is what this team is meant to do.

    Swampert
    Impish @ Leftovers
    242 HP, 56 Atk, 212 Def
    - Protect
    - Waterfall
    - Stealth Rock
    - Avalanche

Scouting lead - Protect sees what the opponent is firing with. If it's safe, lay a Stealth Rock, or attack if necessary. If Swampert blocks a particularly dangerous threat with Protect, switch in one of the other lovely walls as appropriate. Don't always use it as a lead though, it can be dangerous if an opponent which likes to set up is sent out first :(

    Skarmory
    Impish @ Leftovers
    252 HP, 252 Def
    - Drill Peck
    - Spikes
    - Whirlwind
    - Roost

    Speaks for itself.

    Blissey
    Calm @ Leftovers
    176 HP, 252 Def, 80 Sp.Atk
    - Softboiled
    - Aromatherapy
    - Thunder Wave
    - Flamethrower

Special Wall, obviously, but packed with Def EVs just in case. Serves as a Cleric too, since due to the long, drawn out nature of my team's battle style, status conditions are not at all desireable. Can't really decide on my attacking options since Seismic Toss would be nice for steady damage, and I have another Pokémon on the team that deals out status effects, though it makes life easier for Togekiss.

    Togekiss
    Bold @ Leftovers
    252 HP, 168 Sp.Atk, 90 Sp.Def
    - Air Slash
    - Thunder Wave
    - Aura Sphere
    - Wish

Yep, fairly obvious. Sturdy Pokémon but with a punch behind it. Crippling to the opposition :)

    Claydol
    Bold @ Leftovers
    252 HP, 144 Def, 114 Sp. Atk
    - Rapid Spin
    - Shadow Ball
    - Earth Power
    - Reflect

Utility. Spinner with a bit of a hit if needed, and sets up Reflect to aid the defences. Shadow Ball to catch the Ghosts switching in expecting Rapid Spin. Considering Light Clay instead of Leftovers... and maybe Light Screen depending on whether I want to protect Skarmory or Blissey. Or drop Earth Power for Light Screen since it's more of a utility than an attacker. If I drop the Sp.Atk EVs for the defences, it can set up the Dual Screen regardless of whether it survives to switch out. Very unsure.

    Gengar
    Timid @ Life Orb
    4 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
    - Focus Blast
    - Explosion

With my impatience in breeding, I don't have Hidden Power on Gengar. But I would like to. For Shoddy, it'll pack Hidden Power Ice or Fire, can't decide. This guy cleans up in style and the entry hazards and residual damage over many turns allow it to do that job well. Unlike Alakazam from my original set up, Gengar resists Spinners and has an easy time switching in to Normal, Fighting and Ground attacks. Resists Lucario's priority moves which have also been the undoing of poor Alakazam in the past.

As I say, I've fallen upon quite a few of the favoured strategies but they work for me. I love playing a defensive game and I prefer to grind out a win rather than go for the kill - frustrating the opponent is quite a beautiful thing too. Claydol needs the most advice as it has to be built to fit the team, and I can never decide whether to lead with Skarmory or Swampert. An obvious concern is the lack of physical firepower which comes solely from Swampert whereas Togekiss and Gengar and to a lesser extent both Claydol and Blissey all use Sp.Atk. I probably come way unstuck when I meet another Special Wall even if the point is to deal passive damage. Skarmory isn't going to stand up well to a Special Wall with good Special Attack anyway....

So friendly suggestions will be nice :)

    Swampert
    Relaxed @ Leftovers
    240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SpA
    - Roar
    - Earthquake
    - Stealth Rock
    - Ice Beam

This Swampert is a much better lead.

    Skarmory
    Impish @ Leftovers
    252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
    - Brave Bird
    - Spikes
    - Whirlwind
    - Roost

That EV spread is much better, takes hit wells but outspeeds some hard-hitting physical OU threats and the attack EV's allow Skarms to 2HKO Gyarados after SR.

    Speaks for itself.

    Blissey
    Calm @ Leftovers
    176 HP, 252 Def, 80 Sp.Atk
    - Softboiled
    - Seismic Toss
    - Thunder Wave
    - Flamethrower

Aromatherpy helps but Seismic Toss will let you beat stuff that have Sub and Aromatherpy can be a waste of a turn as they can set up on you =[

    - Air Slash

    - Wish

    Good.

    Claydol

    252 HP, 144 Def, 114 Sp. Atk

Yuck, Claydol sucks in OU. A better spinner would be Tentacruel and Forretress but Spinning is useless outside of stall. Just a set-up turn for your opponent. If you want a screener go with Latias.

    Gengar
    Timid @ Life Orb
    4 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
    - Focus Blast

I'll drop by later to list some threats ;)

MixMence ( both versions ) obliterate you.

OHKO'ing your skarm, 2hko'ing your blissey etc etc

You have virtually no supportable checks lack of revenge killing ability and hardly any speed. Fastest on the pitch for you would be Gengar. Wish on Togekiss is meh sort of a novelty to use to be quite honest.

Your swampart lead is terrible go with above posts version. Much better all around.

If you MUST have explosion on your gengar atleast navigate appropriate EV's to ensure OHKO on blissey and other 'counters' to gar. I believe it is 80 att EV's to KO max HP / max Def blissey. Check around to be safe.

What would you recommend as a counter?

The lack of speed is quite intentional but I suppose any too powerful threat is going to wear me down quite happily. Such as MixMence.

Assuming that Claydol was replaced by a Tentacruel or other better spinner, who would you replace for something faster with a bit of a punch? Preferably a physical sweeper such as Weavile with some speed... I just don't see where to fit it in. Togekiss would probably have to go, no?

I know you've come from the old DP Metagame, but things have changed. Spinners are rarely used. People either deal with the damage (which reminds me, your only SR Weak is Togekiss) or Taunt other leads to avoid it going down.

If you're going to run stall, then Celebi would be awesome for providing an alternate Cleric (allowing Blissey to run a ToxiStall Set) and it gives you Perish Song, which is important on Stall teams to deal with last pokemon CM Suicune, CurseLax, etc as you can't phaze them out.
