6th Gen S/M X/Y Compatibility

How do we think Sun and Moon will be compatible with X and Y, if at all? Will we be able to trade Pokemon from those two games into XY?

I think as Pokebank and ORAS have shown, Gens could theoretically be a thing of the past now, because potentially EVERY game that comes out could have some new pokemon in it (like Mega Diancie, Mega Rayquaza, etc currently) so even if you caught a zigzagoon in Moon, you can still trade it to X Y or more importantly via Pokebank to that game as long as it has moves and abilities that exist in X and Y. (just like current pokemon are blocked or allowed to migrate freely to the other games based on the moves they know) so if the pokemon will be compatible with Pokebank, I don't see why they can't be traded to the other games provided their data exists in said game.

I don't know if Megas count as new Pokémon though...we might get Mega forms of Pokémon that were introduced in previous games, but if there's no new Pokémon (i.e. their own Dex entries) I don't think it'd count as a new gen, whereas a game that introduces a new set of Pokémon and a new regional dex would be considered a new gen, as it always has.

But I think we'll be able to move Pokémon from X&Y to Sun & Moon via the Pokémon Bank, but other than that it'll probably be a new gen like any other--not much compatibility other than the ability to transfer from the older to the newer gen.

Well that's too bogged down in semantics, I simply mentioned the current megas because we don't have any games that have new pokemon, but the actual mechanics would be the same as what I was describing, but you surely must understand what I was getting at. But what about Spiky Eared Pichu? Or Cosplay Pikachu? Those cannot be traded to any other game than what they are introduced into, so any new game could potentially o the same, in which pokemon Eclipse (for example) introduces more new pokemon that weren't in sun and moon, all are compatible with pokebank (which they will be, that was the whole point of pokebank) it doesnt' mean eclipse is a new gen, it simply has new pokemon. So now instead of making pokemon gens certain number of years apart, potentially every single sequel (or subsequent game) can simply introduce new pokemon every year or two and… I honestly don't know how to explain it any clearer than that.

It was confirmed that Pokemon from the 6th Gen games will be able to be transferred to Sun & Moon with Pokemon Bank, but like you said I'm pretty much expecting Sun & Moon to be a new generation.
