Hi. So I suppose a little back story is in order.
I'm actually quite new to the whole Pokemon community, X&Y being my first real foray into the series. Of course, like every other child of the time I succumbed to the great Poke-marketing craze of the mid-1990's, watching the animated series almost religiously, and desperately begging my parents to purchase every last card, doll, and game we could find involving the little pocket critters, and they did. One of my absolute fondest memories is of me playing the PC version of Pokemon Red on our brand new monstrously clunky beige computer on Christmas day (circa 96/97) in my Little Mermaid footie pajamas (simpler times back then lol). The pokemania was strong, but sadly lasted maybe about a year before I was onto the next big thing (Harry Potter). I was a fickle kid, and never had too much of an interest in Pokemon after that.
Fast forward to about a year ago. I was 22, working as a waitress at this greasy burger stand, It was a rough time in my life, I wont get into the specifics, but I desperately needed a distraction. This was around the time Animal Crossing: New Leaf came out and as a regular over at Tumblr, my dash pretty much exploded, and as Im sure some of you know the Tumblr hype machine can turn anything from a passing mild interest into a desperate burning need. So a good portion of my paycheck, and $220 later I had myself a peach/white colored 3dsxl & a copy of the ever elusive AC:NL. That started it all, and without even knowing I had become a "gamer" loading up on all the essential: Fire Emblem, Zelda, Mario, I was obsessed!
When I first heard about the new Pokemon games, I scoffed, "pfft I'm way too "adult" for Pokemon," but like I said the tumblr hype is real. So I picked it up one day for nostalgia's sake, not expecting to get much out of it. But a few months later and over 100 hours clocked in on this game. I have to admit that the pokemania has returned. This has been unexpected but not unwelcome!
So a bit about me, my name is Sarah, I'm 23, born on the Taurus/Gemini cusp. My mother's family is african american; with Southern roots in both Baton Rouge & Birmingham (aka Burningham Alabama), and my father's family is from Jamaica although I definitely connect more with my mother's side. I was born and raised in Los Angeles (which is not nearly as glamorous as the films would lead you to believe, trust), and I'm desperately trying to make my way to NYC, big dreams of making it in the big city and all that. I read alot. My favorite books are the Collected Essays of James Baldwin (Nobody Knows My Name/The Devil Finds Work esp) and The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa. I enjoy many, many different types of music, new and old, but Im especially fond of the music from my old teenage Goth days. Joy Division, The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, Echo & The Bunneymen, The Cure, Bjork, ect.
A very long winded introduction, but I just want you guys to know abit about me, I've been lurking around the forum for a few weeks now, reading threads and you all seem like very nice people. I hope to make plenty of friends here.
TL:DR: Hi, I'm Sarah. It's nice to meet you.
