Saving a .gif?

    People tell me to save a .gif to my desktop then use tinypic. However, when I try to save them, it just shows one frame? I tried giving the file a ".gif" after the name. No luck. How do I save it and upload to tinypic?

    (I hope this is where it goes)

    Probably irrelevant here, since it seems the saving process isn't going as intended.

    Anyway, if you're looking to make .gifs, you're going to need a program that can handle layers. When you save the file, don't compress the .gif into one layer before saving. Most layered programs have a feature in the save where it asks you if you want to compress the .gif. Most also have a feature to decide how long you want each layer to display for before turning to the next. Look for that around the saving process (and the timing should also be part of the layer properties).

    To note, I'm pretty sure GIMP has a feature on the save which is basically a checkbox that turns the .gif into animation. Paint.NET doesn't support animation (but there is a plug-in to make it do so).

    If you want to do it in a more time-consuming way, there's Unfreez. It's a freeware that combines images (I think .bmp files) and turns them into an animated .gif. You have to save each individual frame, though. Not a big deal for small .gifs, but pretty tedious for bigger ones.

    Did you actually try to upload it?

    I know when I save a GIF to my computer and I open it in image viewer, it just shows the first frame and isn't animated. But if I open it with a browser (right click > open file with..) it's animated, and is animated when I upload it.

    (Also, Imgur is a much better image hosting site than TinyPic. Keeps your pictures longer and doesn't make you type in a code every time.)
     
    What image viewer are you using? IrfanView will animate, but things like Windows Photo Viewer won't.
     
    What are you opening the pic with?

    Hit open with and do your internet browser.
     
    I'm pretty sure that it will be animated when saved as long as you use the right program to open it. Try viewing the saved image with your web browser, because if you're using Windows Photo Viewer it will only show to first frame.

    I've never understood this issue, either. Any web browser will view it just fine in Vista and 7, but Windows Photo Viewer in these two OSes cannot. It makes no sense when the XP version can do it just fine... unless they didn't make the XP version.
