In FireRed and LeafGreen, we get to visit some new places known as Sevii Islands. These locations are all, as their name implies, islands, and there reside many Pokémon that we were unable to see before in Kanto, as well as missions we have chance to take part in post-game (there is one that's part of main story-line, if I remember correctly--could be wrong--but it doesn't affect the plot too greatly).

Anyhow, what are your overall thoughts on these islands; did you like visiting them, or dislike? Of all quests that you're able to find here, which would you say you've enjoyed most? Have you captured any non-Kanto Pokémon from here, and if so, what were they?

    Let's discuss, everyone!

I liked them a lot! They made frlg unique from the rest of the series. It was the only time they ever appeared in the games and the closest you could get to the orange islands (was also referred to in the anime). They haven't done anything like the sevii islands since frlg.

    Novelty aside, it was like going to another region as you could catch rare johto pokemon, battle trainers, explore brand new plot etc. Only it was better than what they did in g/s/c because instead of going to an old region, you could explore a brand new one. I really loved them {<3}

I also thought the remixes were great as gba music because it combined 8 bit sounds and real instruments (well my opinion)

I really liked the Sevii Islands. It was an awesome addition to the Generation 1 Remakes. I enjoyed the small Team Rocket side story, and the few side quests the Islands offer. Being able to catch Moltres and the Unknown was also a feature I enjoyed. The Islands also supplied you with Pokemon not native to the Kanto main land, and the option to trade with Trainers from the Hoenn Region. It may have been a small post game, but I can tolerate the Sevii Islands.

I scoured the place as a kid. I loved going there, as there was quite a bit of mystery too. What were those ruins and Pattern Bush on Six Island? What were those ruins on Seven Island? Was there sonething special in Berry Forest? I kept thinking as a child there might be legendaries or something there... To say nothing of Birth and Navel islands.

As for myself, I was definitely fond of them. I believe they needed something to keep these games more distinct from original Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, while still keeping their primary objective resembling (which would be main story-line), and as far as that goes, they seemed to have executed it pretty well, if you ask me!

Going through these islands felt like an entirely new adventure, and it had added a lot in general post-game. In most Pokémon titles, we don't have much things to do after we are done with defeating Elite Four and Champion, aside from usual train-your-Pokémon, battle-online, trade, and so forth, but in FireRed and LeafGreen, it was an entirely different thing.

I love how Team Rocket had gotten themselves involved here, even after they taken down in initial plot. It sort of implies that they aren't done, I feel, and are preparing themselves to strike once again (which would be in Johto).

Yess. I remember! Even though they weren't in the originals, they were a lovely addition. Seriously. They didn't differ too much from the originals, while keeping a fresh theme. And I loved how you could explore around and capture several Pokémon from 2nd Gen. Especially the Pokémon that you couldn't get in R/S, at the time.

There was some Team Rocket story and little quests I guess, but that didn't really do it. Once you were done with them, there wasn't really much to do; you'd just keep wondering around Kanto and the Sevii Isles looking for Trainers, wild Pokémon and items. It would be cool if they added a proper antagonist or something for the Sevii Islands. I feel like that would've made the games more desirable and fun~!

I remember the Sevii Islands! I absolutely loved playing through them and it was a very good addition to the game because it added lots more for me to do and kept me very occupied.

Long before FRLG or any of the gen 3 someone told me about lots of different isles named by numbers being in the gen 1 games. While he was definitely lying, after seeing those Isles on the remakes it made me believing that they were originally planned for gen 1 but due to lack of memory ultimately not included.

The isles were cool and I liked the idea of being able to access half of them before beating the game, although I don't like that you have to capture a certain amount of Pokemon to be able to go to the other ones after the E4.

I loved the Sevii Islands. They were brilliant for racking up XP by refighting those kung fu trainers. The beach sand effects were cutting edge all that time ago.

Yeah! I always rebattled the guys at the base of Mt Ember, because as soon as they were just out of frame you were able to rebattle them with the Vs Seeker. I think they were the sole reason that LG was the first game I raised a Level 100, which I still have - Level 100 Moltres

Sevii Islands have more potential than what they are right now. For example the Battle Frontier from Emerald should have made their debut in each Islands or something similar. Diving can also be used in these Islands. As well as Berry Garden, think XY's or the Berry Master's backyard.

Confession time: I've never got far enough into FRLG to get to the Sevii Islands. I've heard that they're fun and exciting and all that, but I've never had enough motivation to finish FRLG and get there. I'm such a bad person :(

These islands were pretty worthless, to be honest. They were nothing more but a poor man's copy of the Orange Islands (with ripped off Johto music), but lacking all of the identity and character that made the Orange Islands unique and special. They had no real plot beyond annoying fetch quests, and were ultimately nothing more than a dumping ground for things that GF was too scared to put in Kanto (like breeding, Berries, trading compatibility with RSE, and Gen 2 Pokémon). There's a reason why we haven't seen or heard of them in any game since FRLG.

the sevii islands are cool but do sort of expose how terrible frlg's postgame is. even the rs battle tower is better, and the emerald's frontier is far superior.

that being said, i love these things in large part b/c of the really nice gsc remix tracks for the music. having played gold back in the day, it was very cool to arrive at four island and hear a familiar tune. gsc had some fantastic music.

I enjoyed the Sevii Islands. The post-game was okay, but what made me return to it was the fact that there were some great spots for rebattling trainers.

Six Island had a great spot for water, grass, fighting, and steel Pokemon, though I mostly used it for water. It's in Ruin Valley where the three Ruin Maniacs are. They'll be on one piece of land so it's hard not to see them.

Seven Island has one for Fire, Flying, and Psychic Pokemon. It's the two Rangers south of the Pokemon Center.

I never went to the Sevii islands. I never fully completed Fire Red because I liked Sapphire much more back then. If I would ever decide to replay Fire Red, I would definitely visit the Sevii Islands.

While I did briefly play the game a few years ago, I never got to explore the Sevii Islands. The ability to catch several non-Kanto native Pokemon there did at least give an incentive to visit the islands as far as postgame is concerned.

i love them, they had so many small, but interesting things.

Back when i was younger i couldnt get past that door you had to use cut on. Eventually i figured it out.

I think as a whole they were super fun, i used grind for fun there, and then there was that battle tower with the shiny espeon.

    Really fun as a whole.

The Sevii Islands were nothing more than a poor man's Orange Islands (and Johto). I found them to be extremely bland and generic (they didn't even use their own music, ripping off themes from Johto instead), and all of those sidequests were just tedious. It's painfully obvious that the Sevii Islands were only put into the games as a dumping ground for post-Gen 1 stuff they were too "afraid" to give us in Kanto (like berries, breeding, and Gen 2 Pokémon).

Luckily though, Game Freak seems to have realized that they made a mistake with these islands, as they haven't been seen or heard from in any other game since FRLG. I'd love to see a game based around the actual Orange Islands, although sadly it'll probably never happen. :(
