Well, look at it this way - the people who get a lot of shiny Pokemon are either very very lucky (rare if they don't actually 'hunt' for them) or they spend the time and effort into a certain aspect of the game that allows them to be more likely to obtain Pokemon. It's not a matter of 'I've been playing for over a year so I should have some' - it's more 'if you want so-and-so then become good at this and do it for a good while and you'll likely get it'. lol @ '24 years' too given the games have not been around for that long yet. =p Given the game creaters made at least two ways to get shiny Pokemon (breeding via the Masuda method - no, it's not the same as the method in GSC but rather applies to 4th/5th gen games only - and chaining) I'd say it's perfectly fair in that regard.
