Hey guys, I'm on my second account trying to fill the dex again, this time with only shinies. The first mon I'm going for is Rookidee and truth be told I'm about to give up on the little turd. I'm on route 2 with 0 badges and just reviewed the Pokedex, I have even made it to the old lady professor's house yet. I have 404 encounters with a chain of at least 100 with no break ups. Am I missing something? Are shiny encounters in general locked until a certain point? Thanks for the help everybody!

Oh and P.S. I will post my IGN as soon as I get a few in my possession for trades :)

For the best odds, you want to get to at least 500 encounters. From there, it's still a ~1/512 chance of getting a shiny from then on.

You might also want to try Masuda Method, but that's locked until you get to the Wild Area, and it'll be really slow without the bike, which you can't get until after the 1st badge.

yikes, i'd really hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but encounter-based shinies are kind of broken (not the good way). you're better off breeding for shinies you want when you get to that point rather than doing it by encounters, which is likely why this is taking you so long. breeding is pretty much the reliable way of getting shinies until Game Freak fixes this.
