Too lazy to check, but anyone who voted "Yes" and said yes to getting free food and water is an idiot.

It's our economy. Distributing food is the best way to earn profit. If we werent to spend money on food, sure, a few people would have a couple extra dollars to buy enetertainment things and pay off bills, but if we didnt pay for our food, our economy would absolutely bomb (Atleast more than it has right now in America).

Food shouldn't be free. Specially when it's not the government normally providing it, but people who are thinking of making a profit.
Nobody wants to create something without a profit incentive, and since the government is not involved in it's production, why would it be free?

Water supply on the other hand should be close to free, which it actually already is. Didn't you know that it was meant to be provided for free by the government?
But the government still put a cost on it, because the government still has to spend money behind this sector, and behind the purification and wages of the people working there.
But actually, in most cases, the government would give it for free, and even with the cost imposed, the government makes a loss on this sector.

It wasn't made free for just one reason: Because then almost everyone would misuse it, and waste it as much as they wanted, because they're losing nothing.
The cost was imposed just so that wastage is cut down by a lot.

There should be free food and water. They are two of the most basic human necessities and should not be denied to anyone.

That free water should be tap water. And the free food would be in soup kitchens.

If anyone wants anything better, they can pay for it.

I am not an idiot! Haven't you ever seen Star Trek? Everything on there is free and it all works out. But no calling people who vote Yes on this thread an idiot, that's flaming.

Star Trek is fiction, everything always works out well in fiction, if the writer wants it too
this is real life hun~

No, because farmers and other people have to work hard to grow crops.

That's just idiotic in it's own right. Star Trek is a fiction TV show/movie. Anything can happen in movies if that's what the director choices. Unfortunately for us, not everything works out well in the end IRL like it does in the movies.

Whilst it is a good thought, if food was to be free, why not everything else? You only pay for it because others made it and delivered it. Also, lots of people buy food simply for enjoying it.

Free food would be unfair to people working in that industry, they wouldn't be paid, and then would quit. Then every one'd have to grow their own crops.

we have the ability to use rain water tanks and grow our own food. it's not like food was exactly always available to us in the past before stores. We had to hunt and prepare our meat, forage, and sometimes our crops wouldn't get the water they need and would die. we had to work hard to get our food and water. We now have to work hard to get money to pay for the food.

I am so sorry, Konekodemon, but most things you do seem to end up looking stupid. :x

Star Trek also has hyper-speed drives, big space ships and daggy hairdos. It is also fiction. You know, that stuff that's not real. Not real.

None of it's real, I'm sorry.

See food and water are the things we need to survive so should they be free. Vote if you think the government is wrong in making us have to pay money for food and water. Yes, I think those things should be free. Cause what are you supposed to do if you don't have any money and can't make money, just fall over dead? And the government probably wouldn't even care.

Government aid, food stamps, food pantries. There ARE ways of getting food if you can't afford it, though I will agree that it doesn't reach everyone that it should. But I don't think making food free is a sound solution.

Wow this guy must be smart, because he says that anyone with a different opinion then him is an idiot. /sarcasm

Because the question uses the word "should," this implies an ideal. Any one who said yes to the question was saying ideally everyone should have unrestricted access to the food and water they need to survive. The question was NOT "Would it not hurt the U.S economy if food and water were suddenly made free?" I said yes to the question asked. Wow, I must be an idiot. Personal attacks aren't going to get you far in a debate.

Although it is not a matter of cost that keeps people starving. Food and water are cheap. And it would only cost a few billion a year to feed every starving person. Nations could EASILY chip in enough money to do this, it's just that governments are indifferent.

Kinda like this. The government providing free food and water and shelter is a nice big step into socialism. If you want it, you CAN get it, whether or not you produce it yourself. But it's not a governmental responsibility.

I do not think food should be free, as there is labor involved to get that food, and we have to pay them somehow. You are free to grow your own food, and hunt. If it's really an issue, do that.

As for water, it should not be free either, this is because there is also labor in the disinfecting, pumping, maintained of distribution system, and etc that needs to be paid. If you really have an issue about water not being free, go to the nearest pond, get the water, boil it over a fire, then drink it.

No, neither should healthcare.

Of course we have food stamp programs already for the poor. Americans on average don't have trouble buying food given obesity rates.

If you want free food feel free to grow your own crops and raise your own cattle and dig your own well for water or visit a nearby stream.

Even if that did happen it would not be free, they would just increase tax and people would request for more and more food for having friends and family over or if you have an eating problem.
