No is my choice. If summer is longer, then the ordinary school days are even longer, making it even worst for students as they'll have more classes to go through, and more likely to have tests (due to the lengthened time of the day). But their study time has been cut down due to a longer school period. What does this means?

We are screwed.

And since our marks are so low, let's go to summer school!

So in the end, "same difference." It's all about school and more school. *OSA Brainwashed*
Longer summer doesn't necessarily equal longer school days. At least it shouldn't seeing as Edmonton managed with that 3 week teachers' strike a couple years ago.

Of course its true that we learn more and remember it better if we have more school, but come on! That means more stress and worrying, at least for me. I've anticipated summer since the first day of school!

True also that you get to see friends at school, but my friends at school are very annoying and torture me to do things for them... like extra homework, so I'm starting to hate them, so yes I need more summer!

Nova Scotia, in light of the hurricane and the major snowstorm, was discussing either extending school days, adding school days to the year, or starting Saturday school to compensate for the days missed during those storms. :\ So really having extra days tacked onto summer vacation would have to have another, less positive effect, too. A teacher strike may hinder the running of a school year, but that's something which is more or less unexpected... if a school board planned a longer summer in advance, they'd have to make up for the lost days somehow...

edit: *saw other post* X3; Lol, some of my friends pester me for homework help. o_O Especially my one friend (who refers to me as her slave XD)... I'm often doing her math homework for her. :o Another reason I would want a longer school year is because it means more potential "customers" as I'm hoping to land a job as a tutor or something. <3 $5 an hour to get people to understand simple concepts? Yes please~

Not necessarily. I would expect that one in a school environment would be able to retain information easier since you're reviewing it everyday. Even in semester systems, you'll usually have friends who are taking the courses you just took, so it still stays sorta fresh in your mind. But even so, I just... wouldn't want any extra vacation time. XP The faster I get school over and done with, the better.

...although, I might be putting too much thought into future benefits and not enough into my own personal opinions right now. The kid inside me wants summer all the time, of course. X3;;
lol, Hardly anyone reviews everyday.

That's the thing... the school board should improve its standards.

Some people do... but as the "cool" thing now is to be stupid... it's harder to find people that do. I go over things that I don't understand whenever I need to... and I know a lot of people who do the same. Besides, when I said that, I was referring more to how you go over things in class with your teacher and stuff. ^_^;

edit: Gah! Too much editing. XD; I also agree with the school boards thing. =\ I may be an inexperienced student merely in grade 9, but even I can disagree with how things are run. I wish my school board would get its act together and offer some of the courses online like the other school boards in the area. ~_~; Plus, it's annoying to hear "teacher strike!" in the news every few weeks. :\

My teachers don't do that. :\

:\ My teachers do it most of the time... but maybe it's just because they think we're stupid because we're younger. @_@;

lol, so true.

Teachers reviewing everyday would help most of the students though, lol. :D And bore the rest.

[edit] About it being the "cool" thing to be stupid. It sure is popular at least... in both Western cultures and their politics, "don't think."

Teachers on strike is a trend in Canada... teachers take turns across the nation to go on strike. Last time when there was the 3 week strike, it "only resulted in skipping one unit for every subject" so "no major harm done until high school because you're so severely lacking any help you could have gotton."

Well high school teachers... OSA is small and we're known to be academic so teachers do help you out if you need to ^^; Harry Ainlay... i doubt that teachers would want to review with 2500 kids o.o;

Really a longer summer means the equal amount of information has to be taught in a shorter period of time. As if the ciriculum isn't condensed enough already... for English we skipped going over a featured film =/ And if you're doing IB, you have even lesser time due to squishing in Edmonton stuff as well as international crap. If anything, summer needs to be shortened. Though it seems to be crap, but then there will be lesser amount of work over the course of the entire year, which is all that matters to me at this moment x_x;

(except for time for church and the lack of seriousness in the English congregation =/, and spending more time with Ka.... *shuts up*)

I wished summer vacation was much longer. Mine is only three months long, and it feels like it goes by fast. It should be much longer, and school much shorter. :P

It's fine in Ainlay, there's enough teachers to go around here, lol.

And... hem, lol, guess I can't judge on the what squishing the Edmonton stuff is like since I haven't been able to make good use of classtime... :laugh: x_x I'm not sure if this is how it is in OSA (do you even get options there), but in Ainlay, if you take semistered classes, there'd be less work for you in the course. So less days of school, less work, at my school anyway.

Good luck... you ever thought if you should drop IB BTW? Ach, maybe that's a bad idea. x_x

Latios Master.... okay... you lucky, lucky person.
[PokeCommunity.com] Should summer vacation be longer?
Three month is way more then what we get. x_x

we get one month ^_^; and for me 0 month due to work and volunteer. (well 7 hours of volunteering a day counts as "school" i guess).

as for IB... dropped it already... I can't possibly handle all the subjects being IB, especially French and English x_x; *melts like a Swalot in front of a Mewtwo with 6 calm mind and 6 agility*

Lightning - Hehe... I don't know if you were living here at the time or not. But at one point we had about 2-3 years of consecutive teacher strikes at the beginning of the year.

And I didn't say I agree with my statement of, "In a perfect world Summer vacation would be the entire season of summer and winter vacation the entire season of winter."

EDIT: LOL I could've been paying you to help me with French this entire time.

;p You don't need to pay me. Only people I don't know should have to~ XD; And... no, I wasn't living there during those teacher strikes. I always feel annoyed because I never get to miss school over strikes. X3;;

Latios Master - Only 3 months? Bah. That's a LOT of summer vacation - longer than many people here, I'm sure. In Canada, most provinces have vacation from the beginning of July to the end of August. =\ Just 2 months... so don't complain. ;p
