"Mmh!"Jena gave Maxie a small nod as the girl started talking to her, she looked as if she wasn't interested in the battle. Was she bothered by something else? The Coordinator wasn't an expert in determining facial expressions, though.

"Do it, Kayley!"the girl turned her attention back to the battle as Railey's Houndour used Flamethrower on the Smog it had just unleashed. If the flames came into contact with the black smoke...Jena just didn't want to think about it.

{Gah!! Go! Hazy! Come on, yes?!}Cascade had seated himself on the floor beside her trainer, tougue still hanging out as he waved his paws in the air.

{Blow? Blow?!}Tania let out a small squeak at Rai's words, letting the wings over her eyes open a bit so that she could see what was going on.

Don't remember what rank they got up to though, I know I won like maybe two ribbons or something. *shrugs* I barely knew how to mix a berry properly when I was doing that though. It was merely by some luck that I got my Mawile to max out her toughness. XD


Zachary

"This guy... he's crazy," Zachary said, fighting the urge to rush over and give the boy a piece of his mind-- and fist. He really didn't want this guy to win, and if he did, then he would have to do something. He was willing to fight for the honor of all those poor pokemon that he had undoubtedly hurt and abused.

Ron looked quite happy that the little pokemon was so smart. {You're smarter than I was Kaika. I didn't want to leave my old trainer when I first had the chance. It was so hard to do... it took Zachary weeks to convince me to leave him. I didn't want to believe that he was bad, I mean, he was the only one I had. I thought that he would change if he saw how sad I was, but he never did,} the Aron said thinking back on his old master.

Zachary had been so relentless in his attempts to get Ron to go with him. At first Ron had thought that the boy was trying to steal him away so that he could rub it in his master's face, but it eventually became clear that he really just cared about the little steel type, and so Ron joined him. His relationship with Zachary was so different from his relationship with his old trainer that it had almost scared him. Love had been such a foreign concept that he didn't really even know how to handle it. Things were different now of course, but Ron never forgot how it used to be.

Zachary looked quickly at Rai, "Blow up?!" It was bad enough that Kayley had to endure this freak, but now Hazy's attack was about to... blow up? Zachary may not have been fond of the little ghost, but he certainly wouldn't wish that on anyone. Well, maybe that guy standing behind the Houndour.

Hazy, who had barely reacted to the smog, snapped into realization after Rai's shouting, her jaw dropping in shock, and her eyes widening even further than they already were. No words came from her mouth. The Ghost-type merely began shaking in fear, not wanting to experience fatal combustion. No, that wouldn't be nice.

Kayley, eyes also beginning to widen in shock, instantly reached for Hazy's Pokeball, the girl intent on returning the Ghastly to the safety of her ball. However, an idea suddenly slipped into Kayley's shocked mind.

"Hazy! Skill Swap!" She shouted, her voice shaking slightly.

The Ghastly, overwhelmed with the most fear she had felt in a long while, instantly began glowing a light pink color, which showed slightly through the poisonous gases around her. A stream of what appeared to be glowing pink beads suddenly lashed out towards Railey's Houndour, the whole line of beads propelling straight through the Dark-type and coming straight back towards Hazy.

OOC: Like, pfiffle. I was hoping to make her switch with that one, Plushie. xP Fine then, PH33R teh L33T act of desperation!

Oh, and incidentally; Goro just swept Hyper rank in Cool contests. He'd have won Master too, but this Altaria beet him by one single, measly appeal point. I hate it when that happens! >.<

IC:

Now it was Railey's time to stare in shock as Hazy had become snuggly immune to the devastating blast while his Houndour had been left out in the open. Well, he wasn't about to give up without a fight.

"Houndour! Shadow Ball!" the gym leader called, his pokémon obediently gathering up a dark sphere of energy in his mouth and hurling it at Hazy, just before the gases reached their breaking point and unleashed a cataclysmic explosion, a thick cloud of dust and debris flying out on all sides, preceeded by a strong wave of heat which caught Rai, prepared though he was, a bit by surprise and nearly caused the boy to loose his balance. Still, it had to be all the worse for the ones on the battlefield, and the boy quickly turned his gaze up again, peeringly anxiously into the thining cloud of smoke in an effort to see what had become of the two combatants.

Hazy almost sighed with relief after she had pulled off the Skill Swap, but once again, her expression changed quickly, once she saw the Houndour firing a Shadow Ball straight at her. Eyes widening once again, she managed a small {Eeeep~!}, then swiftly made the decision to dodge downwards on her own.

However, just as the Ghost-type was about to automatically dodge, the gases blew up in reaction to the recent Flamethrower, the resulting explosion throwing her completely off balance. Yes, she basically wasn't taking any damage at all, but the sheer force of the explosion was enough to send her flailing backwards, just before she was lost in the smoke.

Kayley, no longer weighed down by her trumpet case (which was somehow still in perfect condition and at her feet), was forced to the ground due to the tremendous power of the, ahem, fatal combustion. The same could be said for Fishy, who, after silently watching the battle until this point, screamed in surprise and ducked behind his Trainer.

However, Kayley didn't stay down for too long. As soon as she realized that the explosion was over, and also that the smoke was clearing, the Trainer slowly got back on her feet, grimacing in brief pain.

"Hazy!" She instinctively called out, now biting her lip as she scanned the now smoke-filled battlefield.

Shortly after Kayley had shouted, a fairly dizzy Ghost-type materialized on her side of the battlefield. Apparently the Ghastly had made it through, although it couldn't be determined whether or not she had taken the Houndour's Shadow Ball. Still, she was fine, and despite the confused expression on Hazy's face, Kayley smiled, clasping her hands together enthusiastically. Shortly after that, the Trainer peered further into the smoke, trying to see what had happened to Railey and his Houndour.

 

[Alter Ego]

OOC: Okay Plushie...I think I've said this before but your miraculous dodge routine is getting really old. If you just have to make your pokémon evade every time there is even the slightest chance for it then at least be a bit more creative about it. xP Bleah, I've just realized a ridiculously easy way to knock off that Ghastly anyway, because this gym ain't going to be no fun if we don't get some water attacks in. =P

IC:

"What?!" Railey exclaimed, noticing that the Ghastly was still up, "Still going?! That's not possible!" he glared furiously at his Houndour who was now struggling to regain his footing. Despite his natural resistance as a fire type, that blow had still not been easy to take, and after a bit of struggling the dog pokémon simply couldn't muster the energy, slumping down onto the floor with a quiet whimper and trembling under the wounds.

"Kayley!" Rai called, making his way a bit closer, "Kayley! Hazy! Are you both okay?"

"No!" Railey exclaimed, still in utter denial about what had happened as he scooped up his pokémon. Both his outfit and his face had gained a covering of black and grey dust as a reslt of the explosion, although he seemed to have been far enough not to sustain any actual burns. Overall, this new look made him look, if possible, even more fierce than before, and Kaika who had finally opened his eyes which he had carefully shut for the blast, instinctively pressed himself a bit closer to Rai.

"That things is not going to be okay for long, it's not!" the gym leader spat out, furiously pulling out another pokéball from beneath his sweater and not giving Kayley any kind of time to make a recovery as he immediately flung it out on the battlefield.

"Camerupt! Finish it off!"

With a loud, booming cry, the sizeable camel pokémon appeared at the spot which had been previously occupied by the Houndour, staring at his surroundings through utterly apathetic camel eyes for a moment before taking up a better position in preparation for the battle.

"Now! Earthquake!" Railey called, a nasty glint igniting in his eyes as he realized that although the Ghastly had now become snuggly impervious to fire attacks, it had forfeited its natural levitating ability by doing so, rendering the frail, half-poison type quite vulnerable to ground assaults.

The Camerupt let out another meaningless cry, briefly raising his two front legs into the air and shifting his massive bulk to his hind legs before slamming down on the ground with all his might, a sizeable tremor shaking the already scorched battlefield and sending a powerful shockwave straight towards the Ghastly, the ground rippling and cracking as it passed.

Zachary

"Whew... this is... intense," Zachary said, folding his arms. This guy was pretty tough, and though Kayley was doing okay, her pokemon just didn't seem as incredibly powerful as that Camerupt. She needed a water type or something, that would surely finish off the fiery camel, right? But no, Railey probably thought about that type disadvantage, and guarded against it somehow. He didn't look that dumb.

All Zachary could do though was to cheer Kayley on, "Come on Kayley, you're doing good!"

The earthquake that the Camerupt was producing was powerful in itself, shaking the battlefield and shaking the ground that Zachary and the others stood on. Ron looked unaffected by it, and merely said in a slightly shaky voice, {That's a pretty good earthquake attack, and I've felt some really strong earthquakes before back in the gang.}

Zachary looked worried, "Oh no." He trusted the Aron's opinion on this as the little guy had faced that very attack many times during some harsh training. It looked like Hazy was in trouble.

Actually, I wasn't really hinting towards a successful dodge, but I guess I could've been clearer on that. Yes I should've. Would you like an edit?

Anyways, Hazy is so dead. No chance. XD

Kayley could only watch in horror as the Camerupt initiated its Earthquake, realizing that she had traded immmunity towards Ground attacks for immunity towards Fire attacks. And that meant utter doom for her Ghastly.

The girl couldn't decide what to do, remaining helplessly silent. She almost commanded Hazy to dodge, but swiftly realized that any attempt at dodging would be a waste of time because of how truly big this Earthquake was.

In moments, Hazy herself was feeling the full force of the Earthquake, a very painful experience that she would not like to go through again, the tremors taking their super-effective toll. The immense Earthquake flung Hazy a great distance away, the Ghastly landing a short distance away from Kayley.

Apparently the Camerupt's Earthquake had done its job perfectly, because Hazy wasn't even making an attempt to get back up, her expression twisted into one of sheer pain.

Kayley grimaced as she reached for Hazy's Great Ball, instantly realizing that she had had the oppurtunity to merely withdraw the Ghost-type, which would've have spared her from taking the Earthquake. The girl slapped herself mentally as she returned the Ghastly to the ball, which merely took the click of a button. Lifting the ball up, she whispered something into it (which was probably along the lines of 'I'm sorry') before actually clipping it back onto her belt.

"Fishy.. you're up." Kayley said, softly.

The Mudkip instantly poked his head out from behind her, walking out from his hiding spot in a moment's time. He wasted no time in covering the rest of the distance to the battlefield, making a few short bounds before coming up to an appropriate spot.

{I said it once and I'll say it again..} Fishy began, a glint appearing in his eyes, while he wagged his tail a bit. {..FOR THE SMOOTHIES~!}

OOC: But still, you stated that Hazy was okay. I've never seen anything with a base HP and Defense of 30 be 'okay' after taking a super effective physical attack, especially if they have already been weakened by a STABed Flamethrower first. So yeah...still, going back and starting out edits would be too much of a bother. -_-

IC:

A triumphant smirk spread across Railey's face as the Earthquake hit its mark, KOing the Ghastly before she had any time to react. The boy's Camerupt didn't seem nearly as excited by any of this, merely continuing to stare at his surroundings in a sleepy manner. This indifferent attitude persisted even as Fishy entered the battlefield and made his statement, the camel pokémon merely casting a brief glance at his opponent before returning to whatever it was he was doing, mostly standing there and staring at things it seemed.

Railey scoffed at the sight of this new opponent, despite the obvious type disadvantage.

"Camerupt, show that runt who's the boss around here." he commanded, "Swagger and Amnesia!"

As he heard the command, the camel pokémon briefly snapped out of his apathetic manner, improving his pose and rising to his full, and surprisingly impressive, height, taking a few steps in an extremely haughty way and snorting dismissively at his opponent before settling back into his original position, an even more vacant expression making its way onto the fire type's face as he distanced his mind from the scene, apparently in an effort to diminish the psychological portion of any pain sent his way.

Maxie flinched visibly as Hazy went down. She and Fang exchanged worried glances; this wasn't looking good for Kayley. At least she had a water type in the battle now; a type advantage was what the battling pair needed, and maybe a critical hit or two. That camerupt was tough, considoring this was a rookie gym; no wonder the youngsters and lasses in the pokemon centre had all looked so frightened.

Fishy shot the Camerupt a rather confused look. The guy hadn't even made a single comment.. how very dreadful. Yes, there was nothing worse than an unresponsive audience. Well, Fishy supposed that the camel didn't exactly qualify as an audience at the moment. {Wait, he's the exact opposite!} Fishy thought to himself, a frown spreading across his expression. {Just look at that Swagger! He thinks he's so much better than me! Why, I..}

While Fishy succeeded in totally confusing himself, Kayley began considering her options, as Railey's Camerupt went into a state of Amnesia. The Swagger had certainly gotten Fishy flustered.. Perhaps attacking wasn't exactly the best idea at the moment, especially when special attacks were slowly becoming a waste of time. So..

"Fishy! Just relax! Focus on the battle; get rid of your confusion!" Kayley shouted, deciding not to command a productive attack.

The Mudkip, his eyes partially glazed over, snapped out of his weird thoughts, although it was clear that he was still confused, because he was now stumbling about in a circle.

{Huh? Battle, battle.. relax..} Fishy whispered to himself, shaking his head every so often in an attempt to get his facts straight. Apparently in this state he was like his opponent, because he seemed to have forgotten all about Railey and his Camerupt.

And yay for your Skitty, Charon! ^0^ A few words of advice though; cling to your damaging moves. Skitty really sucks when it comes to learning damaging moves.

Railey smirked as he noticed that the girl was trying to rid her Mudkip of its confusion, quickly ordering out a new set of moves.

"Now's your chance, Camerupt!" he called out, "Earthquake and Double Team!"

The Camerupt let out another semi-fierce cry for good measure, rising to his hind legs and slamming down on the ground once more, another powerful shockwave surging through the ground.

As the attack commenced, the camel pokémon suddenly took up swaying from side to side. Painfully slowly at first, but seeming to gain speed ever so slightly with each turn, the mesmerizing motion soon invoking a sense of diziness in Rai and forcing him to avert his gaze from the fire type for a moment, and by the time he had steadied himself and managed to look again, there was not only one but six Camerupts to be seen, all of them forming a semi-circle around Fishy and staring at him with identical, apathetic camel eyes.

The scene in my head from your latest IC is also priceless. Identical, apathetic camel eyes.. Dude, if I were Fishy I'd just fall over laughing if I wasn't so confused.

Fishy, despite the fairly loud battle-cry of his opponent, was still locked into confusion, his previously enraged thoughts having driven him over the deep end. He could remember he was in a battle.. or something.. but he wasn't too sure. Why was that Camerupt rising up on its hind legs?

"Fishy! Try a Protect before the Earthquake hits you!" Kayley shouted, going for the cheapest trick in the book.

{Huh? What?} The Mudkip attempted to snap out of his confusion in order to focus on Kayley's voice, only to stumble backwards in the process and fall over, succeeding in hurting himself slightly. Kayley began to reach for her hair, as if she were planning on pulling it out in worry, or perhaps frustration, because Railey's Camerupt had begun the Earthquake.

{Oh, uh, right, Protect..} Fishy said to himself, as the Earthquake made its way towards him. The Mudkip stumbled clumsily to his feet, his confusion apparently still in effect. Putting his lame fall behind him, the Water-type had projected a green sphere of light around him, although it wasn't very large because of his small size. It was this sphere that completely absorbed the Earthquake, although as soon as the attack was over, the Protect faded away, having served its purpose.

However, the whole thing had taken up Kayley's turn, leaving one confused little Fishy in the middle of the semi-circle formed by Camerupt's Double Team.

OOC: Omeh gee...presents! ^0^ *Squeals and tackleglomps the nearest unlucky person* Thanks guys, I feel so loved now. ^-^ Despite the 8 AM wake up and the fact that the celebration was already yesterday, this has been a good day altogether, yes it has. First off, it seems like my maths is in the last period rather than this one. (Not 100% sure yet, but if that's the case then that means 6 hours less of school every week this period) After that, it turned out that ToK class had been canceled (Which is good since I had kind of forgot to do this one assignment which we were supposed to present today. xD), during a break, I finally came up with some new ideas for my notorious fanfic (I swear it's probably going to take months before I get anything into writing, but still. xD) and now...yayness! ^_________________^

I'll hopefully add an IC soon, just give me a moment to tear my eyes away from these beautiful pictures here. ^^

IC:

Railey sneered dismissively at Fishy's move, "Lucky shot." he said coldly, "Let's see how long your luck lasts, eh? Camerupt! Hammer that little runt down with Rock Slide and don't stop until it doesn't move!"

With a resonant series of cries, the six identical Camerupts on the battlefield all began trembling violently, giant boulder's soon beginning to spew out from the volcano-like humps on their back and up into the air, soon filling it with a shower of stones, some of them illusionary replicates which dissapeared as soon as they touched the ground, others completely genuine rocks with caused slight tremors to surge through the battlefield on impact, but all of them aimed at Fishy.

Rai watched the proceedings in nervous silence, fearing that the slightest noise from his part would disrupt Kayley's focus on the battle, something which he definitely didn't want to happen seeing as how the odds were already stacked against her as it was.

{This guy's rough... I'm definitely glad that you didn't challenge him Zach,} Ron said, observing the battle before them. Poor Hazy had already been taken out, and now Fishy was looking doomed. That Camerupt was one bad pokemon, and its earthquake was trouble.

"Yeah...," mumbled Zachary, too enchanted by the battle to really make a comment. It was one of those times when you seem to focus on the thing in front of you, tuning out all of the rest of the world.

Zachary hoped that Kayley could pull this off. Everytime her pokemon got bested, images of the trainers at the Pokemon Center with their burned and injured pokemon flashed in his mind. The rushing around that Amelia, Gwendolyn, and the other nurses were doing was an indication of how many people had failed at beating this guy.

She could do it... if she tried and stayed focused. Perhaps Fishy had a berry with it? Somehow, Zachary didn't think so.
