Simple Q&A Thread

Not sure if this is a Q&A kinda question, but I didnt want to be an ass and start a new thread

My question is, where is the best place to start is order to start battling competitively. I just finished the actual game about a month ago, and Ive pretty much absorbed everything about EVs, IVs, breeding.

But now I see a massive task set before me, that is making me uneasy on whether or not I want to invest all the time needed to be successful. Currently my highest poke is my level 79 starraptor ive had since day one. Other than that, I only have the rest of my in-game party ranging from 50-70.

From what I read, getting one poke with good IVs, can take an eternity, let alone building a good team from scratch of 6 with good IVs, then EV training. So Im just wondering where is the best place to put my efforts into now. The only real guidance I have is that I want to base my team around my Togekiss, which Im trying to breed now. Other than that, Im completely lost.

i practice at the battle tower and then i might verse a few friends.

Iv breeding can take forever, but it can also be quite quick, depending how lucky you are.

Well, this might be a bit idiotic and covered in stickies somewhere... But can EVs be overwritten? As in once you hit the 512 mark, the first EVs earned would be overwritten or something like that?

Nope, once you hit the top you're done, unless you use berries to reduce them

Oh, and its 510, not 512 ;)

It's a good idea to try Shoddy Battle. With it, you can battle online with Pokemon whose movesets and EVs you can change on a whim- it's great for finding out what works and what doesn't before you spend 100 hours breeding a perfect team. And posting an RMT thread doesn't hurt either- second opinions are very helpful.

There is no best pokemon, lol. If you count with ubers, maybe Mewtwo or Deoxys-A.

Combo : Magnezone + Weavile, Tangrowth + Heatran, Jirachi + Salamence, Gyarados + Electivire

Sure their is, u just dont want me to knowQ

No, she just wasnt using the pokemon that are banned (Which ive already explained to you). Even with ubers there is no "best" pokemon, they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Please reiterate your post, I do not understand.

She was telling the truth, there is no best pokemon. Every pokemon has their owns good and bad points, and even banned ubers have their problems. Basically Every pokemon can be killed by something else, there is nothing that comes close to being the best.

Better?

It could be, but less so, I liek the post. How were mine?

Don't know if this has been asked before (and I apologise if it has, it's just I don't feel like reading 34 pages, lol) but I need some clarification on rules surrounding hold items.

I was always under the impression that every Pokemon in the team should be holding a different item, but I've noticed that pretty much all the teams I've come across have more than one Leftovers being used (the most common example). Is this OK? Or does this rule still exist? I'm sure I remember in areas of the actual Pokemon games (like Battle Tower) it was even an in-game rule so it seems strange that this is not enforced outside.

It does depend on whether or not the Battlers are playing among the Item Clause or not (ie. No repeat items are allowed, Black Sludge and Leftovers count as two different items, even though they do the same thing for poison types). However, the Item Clause is not always used, which is why you see repeat Leftovers on many teams.

i thought that black sludge healed 1/8 of the pokemon's hp whereas the leftys heal 1/16 of the hp

You may be right, however they certainly both heal for poison types.

what would be a good EV spread for an impish skarmory, with the attacks: roost, fly, spikes, and wirlwind?

Fly ???

Drill Peck , Brave Bird or hell even Aerial Ace would be better than Fly =/

252 HP / 16 ATT / 200 DEF / 40 SP.DEF

252 HP / 60 ATT / 196 DEF

Those are the two ive had most success with this gen..

^lol copter lol :P I sense a hidden message...lol

Also I was just kind of wondering this...when building teams, what pokemon are YOU ALWAYS sure you counter? For example, I stress being able to take out Garchomp, Infernape, Gyarados, and Salamence. you?

SpecsMence, although that has turned into more of a "caution". Now, it is Tyranitar, who always causes me grief. But I have to remember that Sceptile, Gyarados, and Forretress can deal with it, with some creative teamwork.
