So I am yet to play SM and in a couple of months time USM will be released and was wondering if you guys would advise waiting for USM or just pick up a SM copy?

I am currently playing R/Y/B/X/White and filling up my PokeBank for the next journey into Alola.

I guess there will be a bunch of new features on USM but my main reason for thinking of getting SM now is I have a 11 hour plane flight to the States soon and could start my journey then.

So what do you guys think would be best? Will the new features warrant the wait?

I kind of know how you feel. I suggest thinking about what you do next carefully. I don't really know about USUM, but here is a list of Pros and Cons for SM. Plus I'm keeping this list spoiler free.
    Pros-
The graphics and stuff are really good
There are some must see new animations.
    The cutscenes are amazing
The story is really, really nice
    The new multiplayer is awesome
    New features are awesome
    The postgame
    Spoiler:

    Cons-
Some characters can get on your nerves
Cutscenes can be really interesting, but one was almost 10 minutes or so. I felt it was an hour
The game held very little post game. I know, I know, some people say it is a great improvement to X and Y, but I literally finished doing everything in just 2-3 hours.
    Spoiler:

Now finally, about the new stuff. If you are looking forward to new stuff, my advice, wait for USUM. There will be the same new pokemon, maybe a few additions, and some new feature. It is the same generation, afterall. Sun and Moon doesn't even have a National Dex. All the pokemon I got from Pokebank are useless. Except a select few, the remaing dont even have Dex numbers. Anyways, you can decide. Bottom line is, if your looking for a new, fresh start, a new adventure, then wait. But if you like story and stuff, get Sun and Moon. But if I were you, I would wait. Saving up pokemon for the National dex or a living dex is going to suck if you are gtting Sun. I'm sorry if you think its a spoiler, but Sun and Moon don't have very big pokedexes, and they definitely dont have a National dex. So as I said, choose whichever one you want. But, if I couldn't get both games, I would wait. USUM have almost the same story as Sun and Moon, and there will b better features anyways. So yeah. My advice, wait.

    Thanks for the response!

If the Pokémon doesn't have a Dex # can it still be used in online battling?
if it is just missing the Dex # then its not a big deal to me, as long as I can battle and trade with them that's all that matters for me.

Yes. Anything that comes after Gen 5 tranfers can be used. Meaning, only pokemon that come from X and Y can be used competitively. You cannot use Pokemon from Black and White or before, regardless of its number. A numberless pokemon is still good though. For example, my transerred Reshiram can be used in-game and in Free competitive battling, but cannot be used in the Rating battles, where your wins and losses matter. So basically it's ORAS and XY, but slightly better. Anyway, did you decide on which game to get?

I think you should probably play both. Supposedly the story is supposed to be different in Ultra Sun/Moon than Sun/Moon, so it would probably be better to play both.

I suggest playing Sun/Moon first, and then if you like it wait for Ultra Sun/Moon. That way, if you don't like the game your not waiting for a game that will be similar to it to come out, and if you do like it you have the next game to look forward to.

There is very little released at this time for Ultra Sun/Moon, so at this time I cannot say how it will compare with the Sun/Moon.

Honestly it would be better to pickup SM first because to know what happens in USM you need to know what happens in SM i suppose..?

Go with Sun and Moon first as we're still a while off USM just yet. I have a strong feeling that whatever storyline takes place in USM will be connected to SM in many ways, so it would make sense to start with those games first. SM will also help give you a feel for what the 7th gen introduces and familiarise you with the new Pokémon and characters which will definitely benefit you if/when you decide to pick up Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon.

I picked up my copy on Sun on Friday and I must say I am surprised at how much I have enjoyed it so far.

A few of the things that I like are:

Battle animations and seeing the trainer in battle.

Pokémon Refresh - caring for your 'Mon and the way this adds context to the battles I.e "Litten is hoping it can battle well" ect.

    The amount of clothing options.

The fact that the trials are mini tasks and isn't all battling.

Levelling up is not as easy as in X/Y - I am a fan of having to work harder for your levels.

Having 'Mon on call for surf/flying/riding ect.

I am only on the second island so I am sure there will be lots more to add to this list but from what I have experienced so far it seems the series has come a long way.
Kanto has always been my personal favourite region as I grew up playing it but Alola has really taken me by surprise and by the end may just be sitting in my top spot.

Oh! if it was a used game, be very careful! there are several videos on youtube, and a friend of mine also got a hacked and tampered with game. it can be dangerous. but it is possible to legally obtain a shiny mew-two in x and y or any of the previous generations, but my guess is that it is either some extremely nice person or a better and more realistic explanation would be that the guy hacked the game. but don't worry. you probably won't experience any problems. But still though, enjoy ur lvl 100 shiny mewtwo lucky punk! :)
