I knew Astinus would supervise this. :>

Anyways to all of my co-hosts in the SWC (that's Small Writing Contest, abbreviated if you haven't noticed), let us discuss everything here. Oh and if you still don't know who the hosts are, then here's a quote from the announcement thread:

Small writing contest
A tear-jerking poem or short story about a ____________? (Up to the host.)
Hosted by Zeffy, Bay Alexison, Kishijuten and Fuyu. Supervised by Astinus.

So what are your ideas for what kind of writing contest we should have? Take note about the 4-day period! ^__^

I was thinking about a poem, gearing towards a single topic or scene. What're you're ideas?

I don't like the contest being just a poem one. Poems are hard to do if you're not taking the time to write it decently and such. I suggest the contest be a short one shot one without word count limits. As for topic, I'm actually thinking of "Challenge." Don't know why. XD

What kind of "challenge" would it be? I don't have any ideas of it right now. XD

I think what Bay means is that the prompt could be 'challenge' - e.g. 'write a story that has to do with 'challenge''.

My two cents - I am inclined to agree that a one-shot is better than a poetry-specific challenge - after all most fic writers don't do poetry, hard to spit out in a short time for many and if someone writes poetry/wants to for this, then that could come under one-shot anyways and can anyway, I'd imagine.

Herpaderp good luck with hosting though maybe I'll even enter. =D *shakes fist at uni*

Poems are difficult to judge, though. That, and some people might not be too sure on their poetry-writing skills. e.e. cummings we all ain't

So I second the idea of a short story "one-shot" contest. Right now, my mind's completely blank on other prompt ideas we could use, but I don't mind "challenge".

idk yet if i'm entering or judging

Yeah, what bobandbill said. The prompt I'm thinking is "Challenge." I'm open for other themes, though.
Oh. Sorry about not getting it earlier, as my mind is cluttered up right now. I haven't took a night's rest yet. I agree with the "challenge" theme, and as long as the other hosts agree with it too, it might be our choice. ^__^

Well two categories could also work as well...

Mind you would possibly also depend on how many people would be interested in writing a poem as well - little point if it's just three. XD

Maybe we could make the other category optional. Only those who want to write poems will join. I just want to go with the one-shot fanfic, though. :D

I think it would be hard judging 2 different type of writings, but we'll wait for what the other hosts will say.

Hm, judging 2 different kind of writing? Well as long as people split the judging with the two kinds of writing I think it should be fine right?

Oh I also have a idea for the contest, from: a tear jerking poem or a short story about_______
How about a particular theme? maybe like people could write a poem about a particular anime or a short story about a made up anime?

How does that sound?

The challenge theme sounded A'OK to me. Poetry would be good as an option. But do we have to judge it? We could have one-shot as the main event and poetry could be just for fun. Maybe, there could be an award for doing both? I dunno, currently running on brain-dead.

Actually, now that I think about it, it would be good to include poetry somehow. The Poetry sub-forum members weren't ever really included in anything else, and they're pretty much their own little world in FF&W. So it would be nice if they were included and given more notice.

Not sure about having the theme be anime, whether it be a particular or made up one. I don't well know too much of the well known ones like One Piece, for instance. Also, not everyone is into anime. That's why I'm thinking the "Challenge" prompt is a good idea.

Hm, I guess we can do a seperate event for the poetry section, but the section already has a weekly/monthly Poem contest going on. One thing is will the people there be interested in a poem contest for the get together.

I don't know. I'm still thinking maybe we can just have the contest be with a prompt and then the members can write either a one shot or a poem concerning that prompt.

More two cents yays. (IDK why I feel compelled to post when I'm not part of the group though, so if you want me to shut up just say so, no problem with that. XD). Do feel having a theme on an anime, etc would be rather restrictive - not everyone knows specific animes (or any for that matter =p) - including any judges (harder to just on a fandom you don't know about). A prompt like 'challenge', etc is just more open and less restrictive, basically, so practically anyone can join in.

Hmm, fair point - maybe an announcement in the poetry section would help guage interest? I would think it would be better if you compare poetry to poetry and one-shots to one-shots if the two aren't included but if there will only be a couple of people, then they might as well be combined? =/

Oh right, but I gotta ask what exactly is the "Challenge" prompt? Is jut something to make the contest even more challenging than the tittle could say?

Yeah, thinking the poetry and one shot could just be combined, but either one has to relate the prompt.

It's pretty much how you interpret the prompt. For instance, last year the prompt was "Time" and there were all kinds of entries relating to that prompt. I'm thinking "Challenge" can be sometime fun to do. With that prompt, you can do something like maybe a Pokemon battle, facing a real life obstacle of sorts, etc.
