If I don't pre-order SS, are my chances good of it not being sold out? It's out the 14th and I'm going the 15th to get it. I know it's a day, but I'm not sure how much copies of a game GameStop orders.

Well, i don't know about what it's like in America, but if it's like in Britain, you'll wander in there, not see it on the shelves, ask about it, it'll take about 20mins before they've scoured their records to see whether or not it exists, then ask which one you want, and if you'll take all 10 of them or not (lol, pokemon is kinda popular in UK, but more as TCG than as games, and they do get bought, but not until about 4 months after its' release.

XD That happens sometimes, but my GS people are fairly game savvy. I ask because when I went to get Diamond it was sold out and I was stuck with Pearl (granted, I did go later than a week after its release). I want my SS, lolz. I'm wondering how many games they order...

There is a fairly high chance of it since they've been popular enough as preorders both domestic and internationally to get fairly high price hikes (started at $30, went to $35 now at $40) and in Japan they did sell out entirely in the first weekend if I recall correctly, so a preorder might be a good idea.

But do you think in 24 hours it'll sell out? I don't even think COD sold out that fast.

Assuming that about 50% of their stock of the games are for pre-orders, and the other 50% are for store sale, yes, you could assume it would sell out in 1 day. And since the 14th falls on a saturday, all the kids will be able to go out and buy it.

Note that Pokémon is a more popular franchise in Japan than it is in the US. Hence why their sale rates in the game are by far much more than in the states. Also, the prices were raised due to the included PokéWalker addition to the games. It was expected not to happen, but ended up happening regardless.

If you are planning to purchase your game the day after, it should be in-stock depending on how popular it may be in your area. Considering pre-orders and those who come in early to purchase there might be a risk of it being out of stock, but again it is unlikely. If going to a GameStop, they might supply more in the back for later days but you can also check other places such as Wal-Mart, Target, the mall, etc. GameStop is a wide based store so it should keep the games in-stock regardless, at least to last a certain time frame. Like said though, you can still put in your pre-order just for assurance of you getting your game(s) within the first day of its release if you're still uncertain.

The 14th actually falls on a Sunday, but it's still the weekend so fans can still go in and purchase in a rush. Just thought I'd mention that before anyone gets the wrong idea and goes in a day early. :P

well it matters on how many people who actually play pokemon games, cuz in my school theres only about 3 or 4 people who know about the new games including me

Yeah, the 14th is a Sunday. Well, I've decided to go the actual day of release now. So now my chances are much better. There is a Target nearby, but I'd rather not go to it. Sooo I'm guessing the first day they shouldn't sell out, especially at GameStop.

    Im preordering anyway :P

I went to get pokemon diamond and both diamond and pearl were sold out SS is to good to have sold out this time >;(

I doubt they'll be sold out.

Everyone thought that DP was going to be sold out in America, I recall no such thing happening. I assure you that you'll be fine if you buy it on its release date. These games are not going to be as popular as the Wii.

    What day did you go?

Kirbychu: It's just when I went to get Diamond it was sold out on its first day. Buttt, I did go to a GameCrazy that didn't have such good business. XD They might've only ordered a few.

I think there is a seriously high chance of it, that's why I pre-ordered the games. I will NOT miss out on G/S's comeback.

But on the first day? I don't think it could get sold out in 5 hours...

I have a feeling that HG/SS will be sold out in the city where I live. See the 14th is on the sunday, and then rest of that week is spring break. So I'm getting up early in the morning and going to gamestop before the 8 year olds have their gogurts xDD

Haha! That made me laugh. I hope I don't see too many 8 year olds when I go.

I think the most people that will go on Sunday are those that pre-ordered it, which are mostly big fans. While the other 50% games or so won't be bought too fast. I think I'm good now that I chose to go the day of the release. Especially since GS opens at like 10am over here on Sundays.

I think the above gives you an idea about it, but it really comes down to where you live and how popular the game will be/how prepared the shop will end up being. Sometimes games are well stocked, and other times not (for instance a friend and I once went to buy a non-Pokemon game on the (weekday) day it came out (and IMO it would have sold less than what HGSS shall), to find out we got the last two copies. =/ There's no definite answer, so if anything it's best to be on the safe side and preorder. It's not likely it'll sell out necessarily, but it's certainly possible and it's not going to cost you extra (plus you get a preorder bonus!).

Seeing that discussion will probably repeat itself on this and I don't see any different answers from the above posters, going to close.
