Jirachi Update:
After a quick stop in the Pokemon Center, I headed north with an extremely disobedient Jirachi in tow. I defeated the few trainers that I hadn't beaten last time, and woke up the Sudowoodo with the SquirtBottle. Somehow, my Swift attack didn't quite kill it, so I took the opportunity to capture it (hey, why not?) He then became destined as an HM Slave. Before going to Ecruteak, I stopped over in Violet and went south to New Bark Town to show Elm the Togepi, and he gave me an Everstone that I probably won't use. Oh well. After returning to Violet, I took the western path and got to Ecruteak. I healed, said hi to Bill, and entered the Burnt Tower, where Morty and Eusine were attempting to capture Suicune by...standing in one place doing nothing? Lol. Pingas then jumped me, but despite Jirachi's laziness, I still managed to beat him. I descended the stairs and woke the legendary gerbils, after which time Morty's Gym opened for business and I headed there after healing.
Morty
I. Hate. CURSE!!!! That move will forever be the bane of all solo runners. It took me three tries to beat the very first trainer with the five Gastly, mainly because Jirachi never could manage to use Psychic on all five of them before at least one managed to get off a Curse, which then proceeded to kill Jirachi three turns later. This will be so much easier once I have that badge and Jirachi listens to me again. Anyway, I finally managed to beat the first trainer, and the second went down leaving Jirachi at 1/4 health. So I healed before moving on, at which point I had to face the next trainer no less than four times. Ironically, Morty was actually the easiest Trainer in the Gym, mainly because either his Pokemon don't know Curse or they just couldn't be bothered to use it; only his Gengar ever Cursed me and since it was his last Pokemon, Jirachi KO'ed it before Curse had taken much of a toll. Finally, Jirachi would obey me again, all the way until level 50! :D
Moving on, I next entered the Dance Hall and Psychiced the heck out of the Rocket's single Koffing. For this, I got the Surf HM...but I don't have any Water Pokemon slaves. So I went east to Mt. Mortar, hoping to find a Marill, but I didn't (although I did get Strength for my trouble, which I gave to Sudowoodo). A quick fishing trip later, I grabbed a Goldeen with a single Net Ball. Next, I went west and made it to Olivine (and started growing Oran Berries to give to Miltank.) Entered the lighthouse and beat the trainers; they're such a pushover now that Jirachi's obedient. After that, there wasn't really much left to do except head to Cianwood, which would be a bit of a gauntlet since all of Jirachi's moves have (relatively) low PP, and earlier I had made the mistake of replacing Swift for Double-Edge, meaning that Jirachi'd take damage if it used it. Thanks to a strategic use of Wish to heal after enough Double-Edges, I made it to the island and got Jasmine's medicine before going north and smashing Eusine to pieces. Next up, the gym!
Chuck
Psychic. That's all that needed to be said. All ten Psychics were enough to defeat all of the trainers' and Chuck's Pokemon. I didn't have to restore PP once, and afterward I got Fly. This gym was a nice breather from Morty's!
