    Solo Run Challenge V2

Chapter Three: Whitney and the Plain Badge

    • It feels like weeks have gone by since I first stepped into Goldenrod City... I blame the department store
    • Started back on my journey, tried to challenge Whitney for her badge, but she wasn't home
    • After asking around, learned of a content for a free Radio Card for my Pokegear, so I headed there to enter

    • Found Whitney trying to win a Radio Card! Get back to work!
    • Entered the contest, won the Radio Card, Whitney was impressed and headed back to her Gym
    • Entered Goldenrod Gym with Cookie and defeated all of Whitney's trainees before challenging Whitney herself
    • Took out her Clefairy with two ViceGrips
    • Her Miltank was a bit more trouble, but the only move it ever used was Stomp - found out later that her secret weapon, Attract, was useless since Miltank and Cookie were both females!
    • Survived the Stomp-ing, though both Whitney and I used two Super Potions each on our Pokemon; in the end, though Cookie was victorious with a critical hit Brine once Miltank was significantly weakened! The Plain Badge is mine!
    • Couldn't help but chuckle when Cookie leveled up after beating Miltank and learned Stomp! Replaced Slam with it - Slam is more powerful, but it misses too much to be really useful. Hopefully Stomp will be more effective...
    Solo Run Challenge V2

    PLAIN BADGE OBTAINED (3/8)

    • Stopped by the flower shop next door to the Goldenrod Gym... the weird tree that was blocking my path from Violet City before is also blocking the path from Goldenrod to Ecruteak, where my next Gym battle is
    • I don't know what a water bottle will do against a tree, but Cookie and I will find out soon!

Chapter Four: A Wiggling Tree Gathers No Moss - or - Morty and the Fog Badge

    • Headed north from Goldenrod City, fighting trainers along the way
    • Made our way to the National Park - no bug catching going on today
    • Checked out the Pokeathlon Dome and ran into Whitney again, who gave me a free jersey
    • For the heck of it, entered Cookie, Tropius and Wailmer into the Power competition... and we won first place! It felt awesome!

    • Took the time to battle trainers inside National Park after our Pokeathlon victory
    • A friendly woman by the south entrance of the Park gave me a Quick Claw... I gave it to Cookie to hold onto
    • Right before reaching the strange wiggling tree, Cookie EVOLVED! MY cute little Cookie is now a Kingler!
    • With Cookie supersized, I used the squirt bottle on the tree, and it was a Pokemon named Sudowoodo! We took it on and defeated it easily!

    • North of where Sudowoodo was, we ran into a couple of double battlers
    • Tropius, who did nothing more than stand there, got some battle experience as Cookie took out his opponents without any trouble... right place, right time for Tropius, I guess!
    • Finally reached Ecruteak City... and again, no leader at the Gym! Johto must have an amazing Union.

    • Checked out the geisha girl theater in town... a member of Team Rocket was causing trouble. Cookie and I took him out, and we got the HM Surf as a reward! I immediately taught it to Cookie in place of Brine
    • Headed into the Burned Tower in the northern part of the city... found Morty and his friend, Eusine, who seems sort of obsessed with this rare Pokemon named Suicune
    • In addition, ran into Alex as well again - this time, defeated him with no trouble at all, thanks to Cookie's powerful new evolved form!
    • Headed into the basement of the tower, where Suicune woke up and ran away, along with his friends Entei and Raikou... they were gorgeous, but boy, could they move!

    • With Eusine off to catch Suicune, Morty returned to the gym
    • I followed him, taking out his members one by one before reaching Morty himself
    • His Gastly and Haunters were dealt with easily... his Gengar on the other hand nearly KO'ed Cookie a few times
    • It was a battle of Shadow Ball vs. Surf, but eventually, Surf won out
    • We got our fourth badge!
    Solo Run Challenge V2

    FOG BADGE OBTAINED (4/8)

    • Checked out Mt. Mortar after healing up at the Pokemon Center
    • A hiker ran into me outside, and gave me the HM for Strength to apologize
    • Nothing of interest this way yet... looks like we're heading west! Olivine City, here we come!

-Battled all the trainers on the boat
    -Explored Vermillion City
-Went to the gym, battled all the trainers, including some annoying exploding Electrodes.. not pleasant.
-Defeated Surge, which wasn't an easy task I must say.. it was harder than the elite four IMO.
-Headed to Saffron city, battled all the trainers up to it.
-Went straight for the gym and battled all the gym trainers.
-Beat Sabrina, which was a lot easier than my battle with Surge.
-Moved onto Celadon city, and healed up.
-Went to Erika's gym and beat all the gym trainers.
-Battled Erika, which was fairly easy but not great, and won.

Hi, I'd like to join in this challenge. I'll be playing heartgold and using chikorita which will not evolve. I have already started. Got my chikorita and was really surprised and happy that she was female. I named her Lily. I brought the egg to professor elm and beat all the trainers on the way to violet city. Now I'm in sprout tower about to face the elder.
    Lily lv15

    Synthesis
    Razor Leaf

-Battled all the trainers to the right of Fushia City
-Flew back to Saffron, went updwards to Cerulean city.
-Went to the powerplant and battled the trainers on the way.
-Flew back to Cerulean and found the team rocket guy sneaking about.
-Battled him and easily won so I went back to the gym and found the missing thingy.
-Brought the machine part thing back to the people in the powerplant & so power was restored :D
-Flew back to Saffron, walked to the right to Lavander town and battled all the trainers.
-Got the music card to use to wake up the big flabby snorlaxs.
-Got rid of the snorlax blocking the diglett cave and so I move on to Pewter City..

    Update edit:
-Got to pewter city, defeated all the gym trainers (while getting annoyed at the constant roaring by one Golem..)
-Defeated Brock quite easily and won myself the boulder badge.

    Update edit #2:
-Went south to the Viridian forest and fought my way through it.
    -Passed Viridian city

-Snuck up on Misty and caught her on her date so she returned to the gym
    -Battled all the gym trainers
    -Beat misty easily
-Flew back to Cinibar island to get blue back to the gym
-Flew back to viridian city and beat all the gym trainers.
-Faced blue and won fairly easily & won myself the plain badge.
-Flew back to pewter city & headed East to Mt Moon to face Luke
-Battled Luke and 1HKO'd all his pokemon, well except for magneton who took two power gems. :)

    Final update:
-Flew back to the pokemon league, healed myself & bought more healing stuff.
-Faced all the elite four, who were a tad harder this time around..
-Battled Lance, who was actually easier strangely, I thought his Garchomp would be a problem but it wasnt too bad, the worst one was Altaria.
-After I beat the league for the second time I flew back to the Indigo Plateau bit and walked West to Mt Silver.
-Made my way through it and eventually reached the almighty red himself.
-I cant stress enough how angry I was getting at this match :(
-His Lapras, Pikachu, Snorlax and Blastoise weren't that much bother to be fair.
-Charizard was alright but his flare blitz was really sore..
-Don't even get me started on Venusaur.. this was torture I'm telling you! It kept using Sludge bomb which meant poisoning, and if I healed that it used Sleep power.. I don't think I've ever been as angry at a pokemon game in my life.. I'm even angry thinking of it xD
-Finally beat him in the end :D that's the first time I've ever faced Red, I normally just end HG/SS after the 16 badges.

    Zeus/Ampharos:

  • Jirachi Update:
Headed south after beating Jirachi, stopping only to grab Rock Smash before I left Violet. Defeated all of the trainers on the route, Jirachi nearly ran out of PP but I made it to the Pokemon Center in time. Union Cave was interesting; Confusion got a workout from all of the rock types there, and Jirachi (unfortunately) hit level 20 while inside, meaning that he would now refuse to obey me again. Oh well. Anyway, after using up my Repel to avoid those annoying Zubats, I got to Azalea Town, where I saw a Rocket member beating up an elderly man. That Team Rocket deserves a beatdown for that, and that's exactly what I did after healing Jirachi. Slowpoke Well was easy up until Proton, where Jirachi adamantly REFUSED to use Confusion against his Koffings. Swift managed to do the trick eventually, but not without suffering a few annoying Tackles from the Koffings. After magically teleporting out of the well, I gave Kurt a few Black Apricorns and healed up for the battle with Bugsy.

    BUGSY
Bugsy's Gym puzzle was just as annoying as the first time I played it. His Scyther was equally annoying, considering that Jirachi seemed to enjoy 'loafing around' while getting slashed to ribbons by a gigantic bug/ninja thing. Eventually, Jirachi managed to KO the Scyther (and the Metapod) with Confusion, leveling up and deigning to listen to me again until level 30. Hivebadge=MINE!

Another healing session later, Pingas showed up to challenge me to a battle. He actually got Jirachi into the red with a pair of Embers from that darn Quilava (It survived one Confusion and my second one missed...) With him down, I could now enter Ilex. Farfetch'd is now officially the most annoying Pokemon in existence. Grr. I also managed to catch a Paras at full health with a Pokeball for an HM slave; I taught it both Rock Smash and Cut, using the latter to move onward through the forest. Saw a Kimono Girl, but not much to add except that I made it to Goldenrod after running the gauntlet of trainers with Jirachi still only at level 27, but with a new move, Psychic! Knowing that Miltank and its Milk Drink were ahead of me, I decided to level up on the Trainers to the north. By the time I got through the National Park, Jirachi was dangerously close to level 31, so I stopped for the time being. (Ran into a random Drowzee in the tall grass that survived a Swift, so I caught it and deposited it, just for the lulz. May need it as an HM slave later, I dunno yet. Togepi also hatched, which I deposited, and I got the free Spearow from the random guard to use as a Fly slave later on. After a brief stopover at the Radio Tower, I was ready for Whitney!

    Whitney
These Gym battles are turning out to be harder than anticipated with a Steel/Psychic Legendary. I had neglected to remember the Gym trainers and their Pokemon, so naturally Jirachi leveled up during that time and so refused to listen during the battle with the Leader. Clefairy got Selfdestruct with Metronome...I lol'd, since Jirachi is a Steel type. Next up was Miltank, and I found myself actually using a Super Potion at one point to heal. Not much else to say, except that it took no less than ten turns to get Jirachi to use Psychic. After Whitney (when to my dismay I discovered that the Plainbadge does NOT raise the level cap for obedience), I saved for next time.

    JIRACHI'S STATS:
    Nature: Lax
    Ability: Serene Grace
    Level: 31
    HP: 112

    ATK: 74
    DEF: 84
    SP. ATK: 75
    SP. DEF: 64
    SPD: 75
Moves: Wish, Psychic, Swift, Draco Meteor

I started a solo run with Nidoran male today, and I played until I beat Cianwood's gym, so I'll post what I remember :P

I picked Totodile for a starter, naming him HM Slave, for that was all he was destined to be, but this story is not about him. It is about the epicness of Nidoking, who I nicknamed after Barney, the purple pedophile.
By Bellsprout Tower, Barney was at level 10, growing quickly with wild Pokemon. After I dealt with the bald monks, Barney was level 14, about to evolve into Nidorino. Using him, the Bird Master Falkner was defeated, and a Nidorino followed behind me at level 16. At the Bug gym, Bugsy was no match for Nidorino, and I left at level 23. My "rival" fell to my knees, and I walked into Ilex Forest. I helped some random dude get his Farfetch'd back and I gained the HM Cut which was learned by HM Slave. Beat Whitney, cleared Sudowoodo, gained another HM Slave (Togepi for Flash), beat Morty with everything being OHKO'd with exactly 15 Shadow Claws. Taught Surf to Toto, beat the trainers on the way to Olivine, and went to Jasmine. She told me about Amphy, and I decided to go get the Secret Potion to heal her. In Cianwood, Eusine was defeated after ranting about Suicune, and I went to the gym. Using a combination of Double Kick and Peck, they fell before me. When I left, the leader's wife gave me the HM for Fly. Thanks lady, I'll try to make good use of it eventually. This is where I saved and quit. Party as of now:

    Barney/Nidoking Lv. 40
    Peck
    Poison Sting
    Double Kick
    Shadow Claw

    HM Slave/ Totodile Lv. 9
    Cut
    Surf
    Leer
    Water Gun

    HM Slave/ Togepi Lv. 4
    Extrasensory
    idk
    idk
    idk

One of Togepi's slots will be used for Flash eventually but for now, nothing :P Next I need to pick up a flyer.

  • Ok I started today about my Growlithe/Arcanine solo run and picked out a Totodile, promptly named HM Slave and soon to be saddled with those oh-so-weak, ever so useless HM's we all hate. After doing the whole Mr. Pokemon sidequest, I caught myself a HootHoot and traded him for a mysterious egg. After running for what seemed like thirty two years (but was actually only about fifteen minutes, my egg hatched into.. a Growlithe? Promptly named SargeWoofs and a little bit of grinding (Flamethrower, Bite, and Dig as egg moves FTW) I had him up to snuff and, long story short, beatdown up to Whitney, where I used the ever so magical Fire Stone to evolve SargeWoofs into an Arcanine!!! (Why so early? I was fine with his moveset) and I killed everyone past CianWood, where I saved after taking out Chuck.

    SargeWoofs/Arcanine lvl 33
    Flamethrower
    Dig
    Bite
    Roar

    HM Slave/Totodile
    Cut
    Surf

    Hey all.

Doing a Solo Run on Soul Silver using a Mankey. No nickname. Probably gonna make it evolve though.

I got it off of a trade with my cousin. He traded me the egg, and I hatched.

Currently it's level 17 and we're at the entrance of the cave towards Azalea.

One badge so far. You would think that it would've been difficult defeating Pidgeotto with a fighting type, but two Karate Chops did the trick. %D

Currently it knows Scratch, Karate Chop, Seismic Toss, and Low Kick.

    Anyways, keep ya posted!

  • Jirachi Update:
After a quick stop in the Pokemon Center, I headed north with an extremely disobedient Jirachi in tow. I defeated the few trainers that I hadn't beaten last time, and woke up the Sudowoodo with the SquirtBottle. Somehow, my Swift attack didn't quite kill it, so I took the opportunity to capture it (hey, why not?) He then became destined as an HM Slave. Before going to Ecruteak, I stopped over in Violet and went south to New Bark Town to show Elm the Togepi, and he gave me an Everstone that I probably won't use. Oh well. After returning to Violet, I took the western path and got to Ecruteak. I healed, said hi to Bill, and entered the Burnt Tower, where Morty and Eusine were attempting to capture Suicune by...standing in one place doing nothing? Lol. Pingas then jumped me, but despite Jirachi's laziness, I still managed to beat him. I descended the stairs and woke the legendary gerbils, after which time Morty's Gym opened for business and I headed there after healing.

    Morty
    I. Hate. CURSE!!!! That move will forever be the bane of all solo runners. It took me three tries to beat the very first trainer with the five Gastly, mainly because Jirachi never could manage to use Psychic on all five of them before at least one managed to get off a Curse, which then proceeded to kill Jirachi three turns later. This will be so much easier once I have that badge and Jirachi listens to me again. Anyway, I finally managed to beat the first trainer, and the second went down leaving Jirachi at 1/4 health. So I healed before moving on, at which point I had to face the next trainer no less than four times. Ironically, Morty was actually the easiest Trainer in the Gym, mainly because either his Pokemon don't know Curse or they just couldn't be bothered to use it; only his Gengar ever Cursed me and since it was his last Pokemon, Jirachi KO'ed it before Curse had taken much of a toll. Finally, Jirachi would obey me again, all the way until level 50! :D

Moving on, I next entered the Dance Hall and Psychiced the heck out of the Rocket's single Koffing. For this, I got the Surf HM...but I don't have any Water Pokemon slaves. So I went east to Mt. Mortar, hoping to find a Marill, but I didn't (although I did get Strength for my trouble, which I gave to Sudowoodo). A quick fishing trip later, I grabbed a Goldeen with a single Net Ball. Next, I went west and made it to Olivine (and started growing Oran Berries to give to Miltank.) Entered the lighthouse and beat the trainers; they're such a pushover now that Jirachi's obedient. After that, there wasn't really much left to do except head to Cianwood, which would be a bit of a gauntlet since all of Jirachi's moves have (relatively) low PP, and earlier I had made the mistake of replacing Swift for Double-Edge, meaning that Jirachi'd take damage if it used it. Thanks to a strategic use of Wish to heal after enough Double-Edges, I made it to the island and got Jasmine's medicine before going north and smashing Eusine to pieces. Next up, the gym!

    Chuck
Psychic. That's all that needed to be said. All ten Psychics were enough to defeat all of the trainers' and Chuck's Pokemon. I didn't have to restore PP once, and afterward I got Fly. This gym was a nice breather from Morty's!

    JIRACHI'S STATS:
    Nature: Lax
    Ability: Serene Grace
    Level: 46
    HP: 166
    ATK: 113
    DEF: 126
    SP. ATK: 114
    SP. DEF: 97
    SPD: 116
