riolu's fine those ears of riolu arent that black thingies cuz that is a part of it's mask he already deleted the ears on the head :P
The shading is pretty bad. Plus, you didn't even bother to do anything with the parts after carelessly slopping them on top of the sprite. Most spriters call this a lack of blending, and an abundance thereof would help immensely."image removed"
I made my second scratch sprite. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, the first two (and probably the next few) are going to turn out blobby. The most I've ever scratched before today is a tail about a total of 15 pixels. I'm mainly trying to focus on shading first because I've always been awful at it. :[whilst the technique behind the sprite is good, scratch sprites turn out better when its actually supposed to be and looks a lot like something, like an animal, person, etc, not an arbitrary blob or random thing. IMO, what makes the best scratch sprite starts with the drawing before it's sprited
Thanks for the feedback. I understand what you're saying, but I'm still trying to get accustomed to the general idea of scratching. XDEh, the sprite itself isn't that great.
the shading on the bottom half isnt good. it kinda just stops?
I don't exactly know what your aiming for, but you may one add some shading along the edges or something.
Lighter on the left side also.
And the sprite is small, make it a lil bigger.
K guys, after a year and a half of spriting and taking long breaks from spriting, I've decided to take a jab at a scratch sprite. This is my first one. I know the ears look awful, but my main concerns are:
1) Should I abandon safer, more boring sprites and move onto more difficult scratch sprites?
2) Does my shading look nice?

The thing is, my shading looks terrible without dithering. It was either dithering or bad shading, so I chose dithering.Like this:

As for your shading, don't use too much dither. (the checkerboard shading)
Overall, it's not too bad for a first attempt at scratching. It's better than my first scratch. xD Keep it up.
Blatant repetition with disregard to any sort of reason I may have given also isn't going to help me. The reason I did those is so I could make sure I could shade adequately before I get serious about scratching.Try making sprites of actual things. Just spriting random nonsensical creatures isn't going to help you. It just means there's less for us to objectively critique.
