Hm... that's tough seeing as there are alot of really good choices amongst the steel type. I would have to say Metagross because it's just amazing in design and raw power (plus it's on my current team).

Well...Actually...Steel type was introduced in the generation II Even though Magnemite and magneton was in Generation I...Since this is true...There are actually four...Magnemite, Magneton, Steelix, And Skarmory...
