A lot of hacks decide to stray away from the classic F/G/W type circle for starters. Eevee soon became an extremely overused starter.

In your opinion, what makes a good starter? Do you think Eevee works fine, or do you like to stick to the classic Triangle?

Personally, I think the "strong" Pokemon of the Region can be fun to use, but a little imbalanced(Beldum, Larvitar, Dratini etc.)

I also think it can be fun to use a Pokemon that is smack dab in the middle; not too many types Super Effective against it, no resistances, not to many Uneffective types, etc.

    Idk, what's your guys opinions?

I think a starter should always have 3 evolutions. Like the starters now.

I also think, there should be a type triangle.

The only two I can find is Fire/Water/Grass and Water/Ground/Electric

That is what I like to use in my hacks. :)

I like to use Pokémon that are often overlooked, for example in my last hack I used Vulpix, Cacnea and somethingelse.

Also I don't think there has to be a triangle, but they should all be equal in stats/evolution number.

Another type arrangement that works similar to w/f/g is Rock/Flying/Fighting.

This can be done with Geodude, Zubat and Machop, although two of those require trades to evolve, although I guess you could use Aaron instead of Geodude.

lol, i does that all the time (ditch mah starters)
in r/s/e i would always get a sableye, and breloom.
I would keep my starter with me, but somehow, it's levels' slowly started falling behind the others....
so yea, i actually think you should have 3 options, but none should have type advantages over the other.

The triangles can be a bit boring. As long as it's fairly powered (not too strong or weak) then anything can be a good starter. I made Marill the starter of my hack, then I adjusted Marill's stats to be slightly higher than a regular starter's first form (as it doesn't have a middle form and I'm not using Azurill), then I boosted Azumarill's evolution level and buffed its stats up to be comparable to a stage 3 starter.

Ugh. Apparently very few people understand what the "triangle" actually is. A triangle is a set of three types where each is super-effective over another. In that respect, yes, Water/Ground/Electric and Dark/Fighting/Psychic are triangles. However, each type also has to resist one other type, à la Grass/Water/Fire. Ground doesn't resist Electric; it's entirely untouched by it. The same goes for Dark and Psychic.

In all honesty, I really only dislike "fake" triangles like Dark/Psychic/Fighting. I'm fine with whatever starter you give me. Heck, I'll end up ditching it later anyway.

In Whitevoid (scrapped, but still in Prog. Hack forum) I used Cubone. It's my favorite Pokemon.

    Machop
    Houndoor
    Ralts
    :3
    Perfect :D Ones

The houndoom line has only two pokémon in it's evolution line while the others have three. Just sayin'. :)

I, personally, like the classic Water/Fire/Grass triangle. And extra points if you stick with the classic starters as well. As long as there's a choice between multiple starters, I can cope.

The issue of starters isn't all that important to me. I won't refuse to play a hack simply based on what starters it has. In my opinion, there are much more important aspects to worry about. Starters are an afterthought.

I don't mind what starters they are as long as they're given with a good reason. The old Professor-wants-your-help reason works fine for me, as long as it makes sense with the Pokémon. If your mother gives you one of three Pokémon given especially to the Pokémon Professors, there's something wrong there.

I believe the only "true" triangles are Grass-Water-Fire, Rock-Fire-Grass and Rock-Flying-Fighting.

In the end though, it doesn't matter what starters you get. I do prefer the one of the original four sets, as they generally have some pretty nice stats for the early-game and are good in battle. If you do happen to pick other Pokémon, at least tweak their stats to be starter-like.

In the game I'm making you can choose either Poliwag or Ralts as your starter, I balanced out their stats so that their equally powerfull. The most important thing about starters is that their power shouldn't vary to much.
    Here are some triangles:
    Fire-(Ground/water/rock)-Grass
    Flying-(Ice/rock)-Fighting
    (Flying/bug)-Rock-Grass
    Grass-Poison-Ground
    Steel-fire-Rock
    Steel-ground-Ice
    Dark-Fighting-Psychic
    Electric-Ground-Water
    That's about it I guess.

I would auctlly say the EveeLutions That are the real starter Types, Leafeon, Flareon, and Vaporeon.

i really like the idea of ice/rock/ground (especially because it perfectly fixes to my hack xD)

I like the original FR triangle, if it's not broke why try fixing it?

It isn't fixing, it is either improving (in our opinions), or trying to spice up something, instead of a dull typical formula.

A triangle that works is fine by me. I have my own triangle that I have told before that no-one uses at all, due to the uncommon nature of it, and only 1 Pokemon fitting 1 of the slots.
