Do you need the permission of Nintendo and other companies who have the the copyright of Pokemon to start a website about the games, tv shows, and trading cards?

No permission is needed, and they're more likely to say "No" if you contact them. =/

looking at the progress of pokesites as they are being fuild, it would be impossible for nintendo to reply
    lol

I woudn't worry about it, back in the late 1990's most companys found it bad to close fansites unless they were doing something terribly illegal, it just looks very bad to squash someone who is promoting there product for free. Star Trek and the Simpons found that out the extremely hard way.

It is perfectly legal to put forward with making a site that has information pertaining to a copyrighted material. To have images, origional manuscripts, or any thing in specific that is copyrighted on the sight without permission is illegal.
Put simply: A forum such as this isn't breaking any laws, because its just a site where people talk about pokemon. If you were able to D/L images, games, shows, etc. owned by Nintendo, then it would be illegal. Your sight, other then ideas expressed on the sight, would have to contain images, text bodies, and the like that are origional. Basically don't put up pictures that have a copyright by nintendo, Don't put up official scripts of shows, and don't allow D/Ling of shows, music, or games owned by Nintendo.

How about using the word "Pokemon" in the site, is that considered plagiarism because Nintendo, Gamre Freak, and Creatures Inc. owns it? How about the names of Pokemon like Pikachu, and Treecko?

No~ just put the copyright info on the bottom.

And technically you'll see that a lot of sites have TCG scans...those are an example of illegal stuff D:

    Screenshots are legal, yes.

One thing I've wondered about: What about the official Pok?mon game sprites and Sugimori art?

It probably is illegal ._.; Because they're "works of art" literally. And we're stealing his sprites.

It is illegal if he copyrighted the scans. Shows are illegal to post too. Screenshots should be fine. Also a disclaimer should be placed at the bottom of the sight, stating what you don't own but use, who owns them, and the copyright and copyright year (s)
