So I have a small collection of Pokemon cards (about an overstuffed collectors tin full) and I want to learn how to play.

My big question is how many types can I have In a deck? My friend said usually one but I'm not sure that's true?

There really isn't a limit to the amount of types in your deck, the only requirements for a deck are that you have 60 cards, at least one Basic Pokemon, and no more than 4 cards with the same name (except for Basic Energy, which have no limit). So including several wouldn't be against the rules or anything.

That being said, most of the time decks will only contain maybe one or two different types of Pokemon. If you include too many you'll have a lot of different cards in your deck that may not work well together, and could risk getting the wrong type at the wrong time. For example, you could be trying to attack with a Fire Pokemon and require Fire Energy cards, but you put Water and Grass Pokemon in your deck and now you keep drawing Water or Grass Energy cards that you don't need.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
