Stat Values, RNG breeding, Natures, The whole tank wall sweeper thing, it all seems overrated to me. Is there any purpose to it all besides winning?

Everybody likes different things about Pokémon, and have different preferences on what they find fun. Like Wolflare said, some people prefer strategic battles or ones that are more effort than stocking up on Full Restores and having both type and level advantages against an NPC. Others get really into contests, some prefer to just hunt shinies, and so on.
Really it's just whatever floats your boat, if it doesn't make sense to you then don't do it. /shrug

Like has been said before me, it's really about what you want to do. If you want to be a Pokeathlete or a competetive battler, its what rides your rails that decides what you do. I became interested in something other than repeatedly smashing my friends in a link battle. And this is what I've been doing. So, theres no real reason other than ambition... Actually, that is a reason, but XD

Agreed. If your favorites aren't the same overused dragons and psudo legendary's as everyone else, then you'll lose. And then all your left with is a pokemon game that makes the wifi and "community" aspect of the game boring and not worth playing if your always gonna lose with the teams you love to use.

You know how I can't use my favorites (I like Latias though) in OU? Because they're outclassed by ****. People play to win.
If you REALLY want to use your fav Pokes, just stick to the lower tiers.

You don't need an all OU Pokémon team (however, it is difficult to go without at least two) to win if your team is supported well, unless you battle poorly.

You know that a well played team will beat OU? I won an OU match and I didn't even have to show my Stallrein (NU team)
Man as much as Stockpile Qwilfish is stupid I like it. Does very well in the lower tiers where mons hit less harder.

What if all your favorites are NU?

Your favs are NU, so build a NU team?
And compete in NU? Anyone who'd do that would be a laughing stock. To me a least. I ain't doin' it. Then again my favorites aren't NU.

Umm how is that a laughing stock ? The lower tier take ALOT more skill to do well at, trust me i know.

it's like playing in Pokemon Stadium. Sure the Petite Cup takes skill to win, but it doesn't have the same feel as the Prime Cup.

Personally, after beating the game, I look to Wi-fi battles for entertainment, so I see the value of EV training, natures, etc. It's true that if you don't care much about competitive battling or winning then there's not much point t it, but for those who enjoy high-intensity strategic gameplay, like me, it's perfect for them. And it's entirely possible for a NU team to defeat an OU team. The strategies involved, the skill of the battlers, and the overall quality of the pokemon being used greatly affect it.

well when it comes to EVs, tanks, sweepers, walls. i really never cared about it until i beat the game and my friend challenged me to a battle and he destroyed me, so thats when i started caring

when i came here in the middle of 09 i didnt know what ev ou nu hack or any of that meant but if you really want to be a competive trainer you better care about sweepers and everything else or some of the people on here will sweep you

It's second nature to competitive battlers to care about these things, otherwise you'll just suck at it =(

"Being mindful of all the good sweepers/walls will help everyone to become very competitive"
