I am not new to pokemon. I grew up watching it playing from the first gen. Although I know about evs and ivs I'm still not the best at it. I am new to battling online and trading due to Internet connection. I am not connected to the pokemon world so to speak lol. I was just wondering any tips or strategies I should know before starting to battle online or team build. Anything would help. I'm ready to battle online I just do not wanna get creamed because I didn't trai right or lack of information. Thank you for your time :) Have a great day!

You can try posting a team for critique (in the Battle Center). Often the advice people give you and the changes they suggest are indicative of the more or less "standard" strategies and things you should expect/be familiar with.

I'd really just suggest hopping into it though. Really battling is the best way to get experience. You can see what departments you're excelling in, lacking in, etc., so you can accommodate accordingly.

My tactic is hit fast and hard, and then revolve my team around that, but still giving good coverage. If I have problems taking down walls (HP and Def raised so high it ridiculous), I'll use something like Grass Knot. I know not all walls are the heaviest pokes out there, but most, I find, are.

Ninjask is really good at both making opponents angry and buffing up your stats.

In any kind of battling unless you plan on using baton pass with another strong pokemon. It would take far too long to set up something like that. Especially if you do VGC. You shouldnt bother with Ninjask. Its frail stats doesnt even warrant a mention of any battling circuit.

It takes like all of maybe 5 turns to decently set up a ninjask for baton pass which really is the only thing it's good for. The turns it takes really doesn't matter though. If you give it speed boost and let it sit a couple turns while also using swords dance once or twice then any one of your pokemon you try switching in will be a force to be reckoned with. I do it with T-tar all the time and to me it's well worth the couple of turns it takes to set up.

Hmm.. Thanks guys I guess I'm just gonna jump into it and give it a go! I was just so worried about IV's and EV's.

Even in battle spot you dont have the luxury of taking five turns to bulk up. Considering even in doubles or even singles fire or rock could Ohko or 2hko. Even if you go protect, (speed boost) Swords Dance, if you dont get burned off by a decent flamethrower you should use baton pass to have +2 Spd and atk upon another poke. Best case scenario you will have 1Hp with sash or up to 20% of its health left if will be almost as if it were dead because you would be unable to do the same set again. Even if you place a sitrus berry you are maxing out at most 50% at best, which isnt much with a frail body. Frankly there is no good reason to use ninjask unless you like bug pokes and you dont mind losing. Dont believe me? Ask Griffinbane or PlatinumDude.

I maybe more of a newb to the competitive thing but I do know enough not to use ninjask

Ninjask is too fast for any rock or fire type to get a hit in on it even without giving it any speed EV's. Ninjask is actually one of my least favorite pokemon because I despise how weak bugs are, that's why in my team I have pretty much all bulky slow pokes. But it's undeniable that it has its uses. When I do online battles Ninjask works perfectly fine with leftovers. I use Substitute right out of the gate and they usually either switch or use spore or some other such thing which gives me extra turn to use. Then I use protect to heal a bit, then the next turn Swords dance. Which by this time Ninjask has +2 attack and +2.5 speed which makes it perfectly fine to switch out with something else. The only real threats to ninjask by this time is maaaaybe taunt or a pokemon with the infiltrator ability. But ninjask is too fast to be caught by taunt so the only real threat is infiltrator. Which is why you plan out when to use your pokemon so you can take out the threats first.

I might have to try this ninjask strategie out. I've always strayed away from bug pokemon because of all the weakness. Although I can see some of them being quite useful.

I always buffer my team first. then I de buff my enemy. then I strike!

I guess the question I should ask is are you a singles or doubles battler?

I defiantly need to look up more strategies. Lol

I'm confused about a couple things. Why are we talking about Ninjask? Isn't it completely outclassed by Scolipede? What does it offer than Scolipede can't?

While many people don't like Bugs they are some of the best Baton Passers. Scolipede for a Physical Sweeper or other Bugs like Venomoth for Quiver Dance to pass to a Special Sweeper.

Scolipede >>>>>>> Ninjask times Infinity and forever.

I personally play doubles a lot, where moves life protect and detec are staple on every Pokemon.

Doubles is pretty much fast paced battling where good predictions come very handy and often mean the difference between winning and losing.

I'm newer to Doubles but I find that they are completely different. It's really hard to compare the two. I personally play both because they offer completely different gameplay. If you get bored of one, play the other.
