    [PokeCommunity.com] Successful Threads

Meme image does not necessarily reflect opinion of op. :P

So, what do you consider a successful thread, in the various parts of PC? Do you have different criteria for different sections? If so, what are these criteria? Do they rely on number of views, or posts? Does your criteria depend on the quality of the posts? Or does it depend on people's opinion on the thread? Or is it something else entirely?

Listing would be appropriate here if you wanna list your requirements for separate sections. :P

Partially it's number of posts, but also quality of posts. If people put time into answering a thread I think it's successful even if it gets 10 replies and then dies. In my own section I tend to only make threads that I think will be really interesting because I feel like it's my job to make successful threads, but in other sections I tend to make threads whenever I have any ideas so having successful threads isn't as important since I make so many anyway.

    Buuut I never look at views. XD;

I judge the success of my threads on the number of posts primarily. The quality of the posts of course matters, but generally that's going to be a mixed bag no matter what thread you post or section you post in. But more than that, I judge the success of my blogs on how many comments they get. I put a lot of effort into them when I get the chance to do them, so it sucks when they don't get much response lol

Guess, I actually did! :'o .. my sincerest apologies. ^^

Anyway, I consider a thread successful whenever there's a lot of people talking within the thread or how many posts had been posted. I don't judge the quality of the posts since some just answer them straight forward and doesn't bother elaborating more behind their answer. mm, so yeah. XD

I consider a thread as successful when there's a lot of meaningful discussion in it, and there aren't signs of flame wars in it.

It get's more high/medium-end posts than it does low-end, and it still remains relatively popular. That is, posts that aren't just utter crap with little relation towards the topic. An active thread and a successful thread aren't always the same thing, however.

A combination of quality and quantity defines a successful thread to me, personally. If there are two really great, thought-out replies to an initial post, that's nice, but it doesn't make it successful. Likewise, if there are loads of bitty replies to an initial post, it's a popular thread, but its popularity only really runs skin-deep. To be truly successful, there needs to be a fair number of posts, and said posts must also have at least some attempt to go beyond the surface of the question and post deeper, more thoughtful answers. The final metric for my test of success is if the thread can remain active for over a week. Once those three criteria have been met, I deem a thread 'successful'.

When I post a new thread, I always hope to get a lot of replies and hope it doesn't die too soon after my making it.

. . . I never think of a specific quality I want the posts to be. xD

Usually I think "successful" in terms of OVP means about a half page a day and lasts at least a month. It doesn't have to be active all the time--just every day.

And if there happen to be nice well thought out posts in it, then all the better. :3

Time to answer my own thread, xD

I think an OVP thread is successful as long as it gets more than, like 4 or 5 posts. Less than that, and it just seems like you picked a topic people don't care about.

In the trivia sections, I think a successful thread is one that is active for at least a few months, and is posted in at least a few times a day. Obviously, we have some games that FAR surpass that goal. xD

In most other sections, I think a thread is successful if the goal of the thread is accomplished (ie, a question in CQ&F, a finished ROM Hack Thread, a celebration thread getting a few or more responses, etc) or if it reaches a page or so. ^__^

Also, quality of posts doesn't matter too much to me, unless the posts are obviously spammy.

I think different opinions are important, if everyone agrees with the OP it's like "yeah no not successful" and replies, depending on the section are also important for it to be successful. Just discussion is primarily the main part for it being successful, imo :x

    Threads that are stickied *obviously*

Activity of a thread, and then longevity, are my factors of this equation. It doesn't matter how cramped or random the replies are in a certain thread, if it's active for a while, it is for a reason.

It's also not the content of the first post that defines the success of a thread, imo. I like it a lot more when it progressively gets interesting. Take the DCC for example, perfect match for my standards.

For threads in OVP, if it hits second page it's successful -- not all threads in OVP hit that. Some hardly get replies at all. I hardly keep track of how long threads run for, so I don't measure it in days. If it hits three pages or more, it's super popular! ...or was merged with another thread. :p

Can't tell you much about other forums here, though.
