Never played Platinum before and it's been years since playing Diamond, so I barely remember Sinnoh at all. Thought it would be fun to do a journal for this playthrough. So here we go!
The Adventure Somewhat Begins.
Well, Twinleaf town looks very pretty, although my blonde rival-friend Daryl seems to have a few mental issues and probably shouldn't be allowed to run around unsupervised the way he does. My observation of Daryl is confirmed when he immediately decides that we should go bother Prof Rowan, and insist he gives us some pokemon. Daryl then attempts to run through the tall Pokemon-invested grass expecting nothing to jump out at him, and tells me to do the same. When (luckily) the old professor shows up.
Rowan seems like a nice person, despite his stern expression. He didn't give Daryl more than a slap on the wrist for endangering our lives. In fact, he then proceeds to reward the crazy kid by offering him a Pokemon. I would have said something about rewarding reckless behavior, and about how this is only going to encourage Daryl to make more bad life decisions later down the road, but Rowan offers me a Pokemon too, so I just keep quiet and pick my favourite of the three.

Level 5
Moves: Tackle, Withdraw.
Nature: Didn't even look. I don't care about natures in-game.
Possibly an unpopular choice, but I adore grass types so long as they aren't Chespin. And Torterra is one of the most underrated badasses in the series IMO. Daryl chooses Chimchar, which kinda suits him, and we battle. I know that Daryl is highly impatient, so I order my Turtwig to keep using withdraw just to be annoying and make it drag on forever - it's the least that guy deserves. Then I destroy him and his fire monkey without breaking a sweat.
Annoyingly, Daryl doesn't seem phased by his first battle being a complete and utter fail, and instead uses his magic powers to zap us both back to Twinleaf town. My mother is pretty chill about the whole idea of me suddenly leaving home and going off on an adventure with a turtle. She even hands me some running shoes so that I can get out of her hair a.s.a.p.
She's great like that.
So off I go. Finally starting out on my Pokemon Journey. A great adventure awaits, with many places to go, Pokemon to meet, challenges to overcome, and.... then I bump into Daryl again.
He's gonna be along for the whole ride isn't he?
