Super Niche Aspects of Modding

Hey guys, I wanted to set this thread up to be something both weird and unique. Niche and the odd section would be more of the understanding but I've worked on small rom hacks here and there but always wanted to make a super odd rom. Something more unseen. But this thread is for the more uncommon questions of spriting, coding, map making, etc.

But one of the super weird questions I've come to ask come from modding in multiple games, specifically Final Fantasy 6. I've always been a fan of custom sprites from those games and thought "Those are around the same size as pokemon spites and have a very low color pallet count. So why haven't we ever made sprites in a similar style the utilize the chibi style with more personality. I'll attach an example to help make it clear.

In some ways it does, but there's a lot of custom tilesets, UIs, Battle backdrops etc. Honestly one could theoretically use the style as a basis for a visual upgrade.

I started looking around and had an idea pertaining back to the final fantasy sprite thing. Think of a pokemon game, but with the monsters/characters/summons/etc of final fantasy with menus resembling that of Final Fantasy, obviously done with a tile set to make sprites work, protags/antags/ summons as Legends. I wanted to ask about some feedback on the idea before I try to find some people to help. (I can sprite, map, storyboard, etc, I just script like a blind and dyslexic chimpanzee.) But I wanted to put the idea out there to see how people feel about the concept before I try to start a project that suck.
