Surprise! Samsung Galaxy S7 reported to have exploded

The problem here lies within cheaply-made lithium-ion batteries, and I really do think the time has come to perhaps further look into development into alternatives of lithium-ion batteries. Or as a cheaper solution: Samsung could just change their vendor of batteries.

What do y'all think? Is Samsung still a brand y'all would look into for buying a new phone?

I was never really a fan of Samsung so I wouldn't have bought their phones even before they turned into frag grenades. Their marketing personnel killed them for me by shoving their phones and watches down my throat when I had to sell that stuff.

The only thing I've really liked is their note stylus. That was nice...

it seems the whole s7 lineup is exploding there was recently a s7 edge that exploded at a rival school of the high school i graduated from its same school district and the phone exploded while class was in session

It's only natural for media outlets to report on things exploding, even if they're pretty rare. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge does not have any battery defects that we're aware of right now, so most of the problems could probably be boiled down to someone unfortunately getting an extremely short stick - unlike the Note7 where a bad design essentially made all of them time-bombs.

This new isn't fazing me for the reason above. In fact, I've been planning to get a new Samsung smartphone this December. But that's for another thread.

These instances could be prevented by not leaving your phone in hot environments, and also unplugging it from charging as soon as the battery hits 100%. However, modern batteries are supposed to be designed to cut their charging cycle as soon as the battery is fully charged.

These instances could be prevented by not leaving your phone in hot environments, and also unplugging it from charging as soon as the battery hits 100%. However, modern batteries are supposed to be designed to cut their charging cycle as soon as the battery is fully charged.

Thermal runaway can't be avoided with all the electronics and software you try to put in when it's being caused by a manufacturing defect. Chemistry and physics kind of ruin things. All it takes is a minor problem, and a fire or explosion you'll get.
