FireRed hack: Sword and Shield Ultimate Plus GBA English Version (Complete 1.2.1.2)

So, I think the Portuguese version got a solid update with an improved Sprite set for the main character. Do you have plans on adding this to your translation?
Yes so what I'm actually doing is taking the original version I based the english version on, creating a patch using the latest release, then applying that patch to an edited version of the current game. This brings as many of the updates, translation, and fixes as possible to the new version of the game. The release version when it comes out will have everything that PCL.G added plus the english translation and a few optimizations that ive made along the way. This does mean that for the time being, I've had to remove the gen 9 mons I added.

At this point the game is about 75% translated. Once I complete the translation, I will be reviewing my changelog and implementing the fixes I have made over the time that I have been maintaining the English version. Once the translation is perfected and the updates made, I will be moving 100% to my next project.
 
Saw a playthrough of this rom hack recently by a youtuber called Vizery, one thing that bothered me greatly is the soundtrack still being the vanilla FRLG one

Is the creator planning to put music from Galar into this? I'm aware it may be impossible to implement music from beyond Gen 4 onto GBA (Rogue Emerald's recent update as a example to have music from HGSS even), but it feels so weird hearing Kanto music in this. Just curious is all though.

Rogue is emerald decomp based so it's not 1:1 translatable as this is a binary hack. It's possible to add new music and I can confirm that there is some new music in the newest update, but i have not comprehensively gone thru and looked to change it. Demaking the gen 8 music would be a significant undertaking, to which i am under-qualified, and frankly o don't have the time to try to learn. It might be possible to add some hg/ss music, but this is not a priority at the moment.
 
Hi Everyone!

I've been obsessed with the idea of GBA demakes for later games for a little while now. I stumbled across PCL.g and Jean star's Sword and Shield GBA game.

There are a few versions of this game floating around online. The regular version and an ultimate version. The regular version is in both Portuguese and English, while the Ultimate version is only in Portuguese.

While very cool in concept, these games all suffer from compatibility issues. They can only be played on specific emulators with specific settings. I did a deep dive into all of these roms in order to try to gain functionality on real hardware (ie, flashable repro. carts). The non-ultimate versions have a bug which will not allow you to progress past the title screen and will crash. I have had no success in fixing that version.

That left me with the Ultimate version. The Ultimate version worked...kinda. It contained game breaking bugs which caused crashes when you try to view either your bag or your party. This makes it impossible to catch Pokemon, use items, and many other issues which you could conceive.

I have fixed those bugs and now the game is playable on all emulators I have tested (mGBA, VBA-M, and no$gba) and functions on reflashed reproduction cartridges as well as on the Analogue pocket's openFPGA.

The game was still only in Portuguese. As a native English speaker, I wanted to play in my own language. I have faithfully translated the Ultimate version into English.

Here I am sharing a .ups patch which you can patch to a base Fire Red ROM which you may use to play on any medium of your choosing!

I want to again emphasize. I take no credit for the creation of this ROM hack, I merely translated it to English and fixed some bugs to make it compatible with real hardware. I asked PCL.G for permission to distribute this version and he approved my request.

Known Bugs:

  • in the mission to get the Z-bracelet, please give the man his Mudsdale back. Holding on to it will cause issues.
  • in the Isle of Armor, the absolute last thing you should do is battle Honey, she gives you the crown pass. She may give it to you if you haven't completed everything else.
  • Some collision issues.
  • Few scenarios where there are blank or repeated text boxes.

UPDATE:

I know that PCLg has dropped an update. I am working to port that update over to this version. All work on this current version will be stopped. So 3.1.5 will be the final release of this version of the game. The next release will be the translated overhaul of PCLGs latest update. Stay tuned. No timeline as I have begun my next project and this is taking a backseat.

BIG update patch coming soon. PCLG released an update with more content. Translation is complete working with some testers to fix bugs and add polish

I am so excited for this! Does the new version script out the events in the base SWSH better than the previous one, as well as add new music?

There is some new music. The story is mostly unchanged (it was already very faithful to the original) . Side quests are a big change here, as well as some graphical changes, and dynamax adventures was overhauled.
 
Are all the pokemon in the pokedex obtainable or are some locked behind trades/not catchable?

I've tried to make everything available. Since there is limited space for spawns (a function of only being to put X amount of spawns per route and X # routes in the game), i have tried to include as many mons as possible. If you notice anything missing, i can try to work it in, just let me know.
