Ok... so I tried posting this on my blog, but couldn't because I don't quite have access to it just yet. But I came up with a theory... what if Necrozma was actually created by this supposed Rainbow Rocket?
Spoiler:I'm going to start off with a few points about Necrozma, the Legendary Pokemon that's central to the plot of USUM:
- It's reminiscent of the Ultra Beasts according to the in-game Pokedex entry of Sun and Moon, and looks similar to Ultra Beast in that it doesn't look like it originated from Poke-Earth... but, it's classified as a Pokemon. For Necrozma, it's also stated in the Pokedex that it's "thought to have come from another world". Since it's technically a Pokemon and not an Ultra Beast, is it possible that it didn't originate from Ultra Space? If so, where did it come from? Interestingly, the Ultra Beasts look alien, while Necrozma almost looks man-made...
- All the trailers and official website info seem to advertise it as an evil threat, perhaps making it the first Pokemon that's actually "evil". It's often described as stealing light from other worlds, and the recent trailer that was released just today is titled "Strange Evil Trailer".
- I couldn't help but notice a few things about Necrozma that stuck out to me as reminders of past games:
- Its crystalline body and its ability to shoot rainbow-colored lasers by absorbing light and converting it to energy reminded me of two structures in Kalos that operate in a similar manner: the Anistar Sundial and the Ultimate Weapon. The Anistar Sundial is much more similar in that it absorbs sunlight and it's said to come from space some 3,000 years prior to XY. In ORAS, this special type of energy associated with the Mega Stones, Ultimate Weapon, and most likely the Anistar Sundial, is revealed to be Infinite Energy. This Infinite Energy consistently has a rainbow-colored aura associated with it in XY and in ORAS. Necrozma seems to have this color scheme as well, with the colored triangle symbol on its two Forms' faces, as well as the lasers and various lights it emits in artworks such as in the TCG. Could the Anistar Sundial and Necrozma have come from the same world, or is Necrozma made out of the same exact crystalline material as the Sundial(and to a lesser extent, the Ultimate Weapon as well)?
- Another thing is how Necrozma absorbs Solgaleo and Lunala; as soon as these Forms were revealed, most everybody drew the conclusion that they were fusions similar to the Kyurem fusions simply because Colress made a cameo, and they just happened to be similar.
Now I'm going to move onto some things about the Rainbow Rocket part of the theory. According to some rumors/leaks/whatever, somebody in Rainbow Rocket gathers up all the past evil team bosses from previous games and forms a stronger, newer version of Team Rocket. This team would consist of the usual grunts, plus Admins such as Giovanni, Maxie, Archie(if this were to actually happen, almost guaranteed Maxie and Archie will be version-exclusives), Cyrus, Ghetsis, Lysandre, Guzma, and Lusamine.
Now why on Zygarde's green Poke-Earth would all of these guys team up? It makes no sense. As much as I'm super-excited about the possibility of this being true, it still makes no sense. But then it hit me... Necrozma has traits that relate to some aspects of each of the evil teams, except for Team Skull. I'm gonna break it down for y'all:
- Giovanni: Possible callback to how the anime version of Team Rocket created Mewtwo, another Legendary Pokemon with immense power.
- Maxi/Archie: Project AZOTH and the research on Infinite Energy(which was technically stolen from Devon Corp, but still).
- Cyrus: This is an interesting one. Remember in Necrozma's Pokedex entry where it says it has visited Alola in ancient times? Team Galactic dealt with research into time and space manipulation; if Necrozma can travel through Ultra Space and create Ultra Wormholes, what's to say that it can't travel through time as well?
- Ghetsis: Remember how people were freaking out over Colress appearing in SM and then the Necrozma fusion-forms were revealed? Ghetsis could have implemented a replica of the DNA Splicer technology into Necrozma to allow it to fuse with other powerful Pokemon.
- Lysandre: Could have used the crystalline materials gathered from the Ultimate Weapon or Anistar Sundial(or both) to create Nezcroma's body.
- Lusamine: I got a mini-theory with this one. In the leaks, it's mentioned that Lusamine is actually kidnapped by Rainbow Rocket. It's also widely speculated and slightly hinted at Lusamine not being the main antagonist like she was in SM. Also, the picture that was leaked a few days ago suggests that Team Rocket/Rainbow Rocket do take over the Aether Foundation HQ. Aether created Type: Null/Silvally, so I think Giovanni forces Lusamine to help construct Necrozma by threatening to harm her children, Lillie and Gladion. Because he's a jerkwad like that.
- Guzma: Sorry son, you get nothin'.
In short: In-game Giovanni wants to create an unstoppable Pokemon to use as a weapon, and since his current resources don't allow it, he decides to enlist others and their expertise to create it.
I apologize in advance, this theory most likely has a butt-ton of holes in it...
That sounds interesting xD.
It does have a connection to Skull in that the Necro in the name relates to death... Maybe Guzma named it xD (if the theory prove correct)
