I've been planning to write a fic that is actually my version of pokemon R/B/Y, with a few changes to make it more interesting of course. I plan for it to be in the future, not so far that everything is extremely technological, maybe ten years or so. During this time, new inventions could come out, so I was wondering how much I can advance the technology in this amount of time.

In the area of modern non-Pokemon technology, I would say not so far as flying cars or freakishly tall skyscrapers, but maybe greater modifications to things that already exist.

Pokemon Technology is a bit different. There are new items to use in every game (PokeNav, Poketch...) for everyday trainer life. I would say that for Pokemon Technology - anything could work. (Advancements or new systems considering each game is a different region, therefore the technology would be different, especially with time)

If you don't think you can fit it in because it seems to "out there"( as in "the far distant future") you can always use the idea that scientists were working on the idea as an underground project and the world did not know of the advancements Technology had taken.

Hoping I helped - never done a future based fan fiction before.

Ten years, eh? Well, let's use our world as an example. In 1998, we had Windows 98 computers just hitting the market, beepers and prehistoric cell phones, and I believe the dominant video game systems were the Nintendo 64 and the Playstation. Fast-forward to present-day, and we have computers with Windows Vista, cell phones/gps/tablet pc's with remote internet access, and things like the PS3 and X-Box 360.

So in that ten years' time, technology has come pretty darn far. Translate that to the pokemon world, and see what you come up with. I'd keep in mind that technology tends to get smaller: this makes things more convenient and portable. What would that mean for a trainer? I dunno...maybe they can access their p.c. from anywhere.

The general rule for computers is that every few years or so the amount of components they can put on a chip doubles, and the price halves. As far as story goes, though, just make sure that what you write about is interesting and you shouldn't have any problems.
