I think they deserve a referendum, and we deserve a PM whose policies on Catalonia go a bit further than "No.". Of course, they are going all speed ahead because chances are that, after December 20th, we'll have a new Government that can actually sit to negotiate and they don't want to lose the "since the Spanish State won't talk, we have to leave altogether ASAP" card- one of the four major candidates for the elections next month is from Barcelona and he was a MP in the Cat Parliament until the Sept. elections, in which his party became the second largest in all of Catalonia!
Either way, I don't want to see them leave and I'd want this to serve as a wake-up call to ammend the Constitution and make a proper system for a federal country, since we have essentially a federation of 17 states + 2 cities running on a Constitution drafted with an unitary, centalised State in mind, so it has a lot of holes everywhere.
That and a group teraphy with the Catalans, because there is a wave of hatred being created between them and everyone else that's going to be very hard to fix. Of course, if they do end up leaving, then good ****ing luck- out of the EU and the Euro (which over 75% of Catalans are against when asked- but the independentists say they can somehow leave without a negotiation and yet be welcomed into the EU with open arms the next day), with borders between them and Spain and France, all big companies and banks fleeing elsewhere and a 50/50 split country. As a bonus hilarity, Barcelona province has a clear majority against secession- so South Catalonia staying as part of Spain? This is all pure madness, and the worst thing is that there have been enough stupid politicians to allow it to grow up to this point.
Yup. It's the oldest, most Conservative and traditionalist newspaper on display, in the sense of what a Brit would call "Victorian". The sort of "King, God and Fatherland" newspaper. That's why they are obsessed with sex.
