Do you ever notice that when you're up against an opponent who knows Protect or Detect, they ALWAYS use it? Does this ever get annoying to you, constantly having your attacks fail because of it? Do you ever try to do this strategy of using Protect/Detect repeatedly yourself?

I always hate it when this happens. I was just battling an Unfezant, whose moves went Detect, Detect, Taunt, Detect, Detect. I never try to use this strategy myself, however.

Yeah, it's REALLY annoying when that happens. I don't really mind if the opponent is trying to stall with Toxic, but the AI just uses it for absolutely no reason other than to waste your PP and piss you off.

What I noticed was that if the AI Pokemon has Protect/Detect as one of it's moves, then it's usually the first move they use. It annoys me if it succeeds twice or thrice in a row, but I sometimes get around it by using a set up move.

Oh yes, I hate it when they spam those moves, Pelliper in R/S/E and Hitmonchan in B/W! :@ I never really use the 'strategy' myself but I do find it annoying when the AI decides to use it... alot.

Oh, man, that is annoying... especially when you're on a long route and people keep spamming Protect, it can really drain your PP. Plus, it's not like random NPC trainers or wild Pokemon use Protect as any part of a coherent strategy... it's just moves used at random, except Protect gets used more often. In short, the time and PP wasting is really annoying, and unnecessary.

My problem is that they can easily use Protect five times in a row and it will work each time. I've never had it work more than twice for a player. EVER.

I used to think that was an awesome strategy, so I tried it. And from that point on, I realized the AI was a dumbass.

No, because they're just delaying the inevitable.
I don't usually use Protect or Detect as a move on a Pokemon's final moveset.

Blah Every trainer in hoenn seemed to use that 'strategy,' it was really annoying and always wasted my PP...
The only time Ive ever used Protect/detect was with Norman's Slaking in Emerald. But then again, didn't everyone :3

Well it doesn't bother me anymore because I know that if they keep using it, they wont have the move anymore and it will fail if they keep using it. then when that happens, I laugh very hard at this situation

It wouldn't annoy me as much if they used it tactically. For example, I'll have leftovers and Rain Dish (in the rain, of course), and I'll use Protect to heal myself. Another example would be, when a n00b uses dig, dive or fly, and you use Protect on the turn its supposed to hit.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I just wish that Gamefreak would have more moves that would ignore Protect & Detect - Feint & Shadow Force is nowhere near enough.

The only thing that really bugs me more than that is when you try to escape, fail, get hit, then try again to find your self fleeing successfully with half health. However, yes, it is quite annoying, especially wasting move points.

Yeah, it can get really annoying like in B/W, where EVERY Tranquill/Unfezant that has Detect that i go up against always uses it, like, 3 times in a row. It's really annoying and it wastes your PP, but i laugh when the move fails.

Yes, omg, that annoys me so much. I was trying to grind, but I ran out of PP so quickly and had to constantly go back to the PC and heal. It reminds me of Medidite in previous gens.

That calls to mind Pokémon Sapphire's Meditite; I was sure it'd be the death of me. Detect, Detect, Detect, Protect, Detect... I'd had enough by the time I could get in a decent Wing Attack.
No, I never use this method. I tend to avoid my Pokés ever even learning such a move. All it does is stall time and tick people off.
