Chapter one
"Ugh, I still can't get this right!" I threw my game controller against the wall and stood up. I had been playing one of my little brother's Digimon games, and I sucked at it. Picking my shoes up I slipped them on.
The other person in the room stood up too and sighed. "Come on Rikki, give it another try." The kid was my age, thirteen, and he was my best friend. I had been practicing the game at his house, since my brother wouldn't let me play it at home, trying to get good enough to beat my brother. Which would probably never happen.
I fell back onto the bed and cried out into my friends pillow. "JoJo, I can't feel my fingers anymore! I think it's time to give up!!" It was safe to say I was mad. JoJo walked over and grabbed a hold of my feet. "Don't even think abo-" My words were taking right out of my mouth as he pulled me over board. I landed head first onto the room's floor, which was really hard. I stood up rubbing my head and glared at JoJo.
He was laughing now, just as I figured he would. All I knew though was that if he didn't stop laughing I'd give him something to cry about. "Sorry Rikki, but you gotta admit that was pretty funny!" He said while trying to stop laughing.
"Oh you think so? Well, then you better start running." I said. He quickly got the idea and bolted down the flight of stairs by his room. Smiling I ran after him only to be caught off guard by my shoe not being tied. So I tumbled down the stairs. Luckily for me I landed on something soft. Unluckily for JoJo, it was him. "Whoops" I whispered as I saw him glaring at me.
Getting the message I quickly got up only to see Miss Joshin standing there in her normal apron. "Now, Jonathan, please go get ready for school." She pleaded brushing a piece of black hair from her eyes.
JoJo sighed and stood. I gave him a sympathetic look as he went upstairs. Then I looked back at Miss Joshin. "Sorry for the ruckus Angie, guess I'm not the greatest role model on him am I?" I laughed at my own remark. Miss Joshin smiled and shook her head.
"He's a big boy Rikkilyn, It's his own fault. In fact I think your the best role model on him!" Her smile grew bigger as she spoke. My got a little smaller at the name 'Rikkilyn'. "Come here there's something I want to show you." She said standing up.
Just as I was going into the kitchen to follow her, JoJo rushed down the stairs. He had on a casual black shirt that had in big letters "ACDC" which was normal for him, and an old pair of blue jeans. His brown hair that reached down half of his neck was still as messy as ever. "Okay gotta head to school, bye Mom" he said throwing me my backpack and pulling me through the door.
Once we were walking on the sidewalk I made him stop. "What was the big rush JoJo?" I asked striating out my black jeans, and red T-shirt. JoJo turned around and smiled nervously.
"Just didn't want to be late for school" he said then turned around to continue walking.
I started walking again but yelled, "Bull JoJo, what's up?" I asked again this time walking beside him gripping my backpack. He sighed and looked at the ground.
"I'll tell you after school...okay?!" he looked like he was going to burst any moment. I nodded and we continued our walk in silence. He sounded like he was upset, and he's been distant, like he's hiding something. I shook it off and kept walking.
Soon we saw Serio Middle School. JoJo and I looked at eachother, both smiling wildly. We dashed towards the school in our usual race. Every kid had moved out of our way, they were used to our race. Some people said I'd win some said JoJo would. In the end JoJo, being the first to make it to our class room.
Taking our seats we turned around to face the person behind us, and also our best friend. She was a few months older then us, she had long blond hair and she had on a pink flowery dress with pink flip-flops. "Hey JoJo, Rikki!" She said excitingly. Her bright smile was almost as contagious as her attitude.
"Hey Casey, nice to see you back at school" JoJo said. I knew he was flirting with her, he always does. Unfortunately for him, she has a boyfriend.
I playfully shove him in the arm just as Casey begins to speak. "Oh you too are so cute together." I just about knocked her out for that comment. We are not cute together. "Are you guys entering the Digimon contest, it's supposed to be next week?" Casey asked holding up a piece of paper with the information.
I laughed. "Please tell me you aren't serious, I can't even beat my own eleven year old brother and he's disabled!" I threw my hands up in the air wildly. JoJo smiled and pulled my arms back to my side.
"One, your brothers not disabled. Two, come out it will be fun. Don't you want to try and be the best of the best?" JoJo asked poking me in the side.
"That ain't gonna happen JoJo, and I can't be the best, I couldn't even beat a one-year-old!" I raised my voice a little, trying to sound a little more crazy then I was.
Casey changed her look from JoJo to me. "Isn't." She said calmly. I gave her one of those what-the-heck-are-you-talking-about looks. "It's supposed to be isn't, ain't isn't a word." She exclaimed. I shook my head, she never learns.
Just then the teacher came in. "Okay, no more talk of Digimon, turn around and get ready to listen!" Mr.Derage announced. Just as he said that a boy rushed into the room, nearly falling on top of him. "Mr.Haney, please take your seat." Mr.Derage said and pointed towards the seat to my right. The boy nodded and sat down.
"Hi I'm Danny" he whispered to me. I turned my head in his direction and smiled. He had blond hair, from what I could see under his "Digimon" baseball cap. He also had normal faded blue jeans and an overly long blue shirt.
"I'm Rikki!" I whispered back. Danny smiled and turned to face the teacher again. I saw him fiddling with a piece of paper and what looked like an oversized straw. He poked me and I turned to face him. He had the piece of paper in-between two stick like things, and a rubber thing behind it. A sling shot! I thought as he pulled it back. "You'll get in trouble." I whispered, but he wasn't listening.
He pulled it back far enough and BAM!! The teacher turned around angrily at the piece of paper being thrown at his neck. "Mr.Haney, I am fully aware you threw that and I would appreciate if you would step out of my class room now!" Mr.Derage was definitely angry.
Danny shrugged and stood up. I pulled on his arm, but all he did was look down and smile. Just as he was about to reach the door I jumped up. "It wasn't all his fault!" I shouted. "I gave him the slingshot." I felt like I was going to die.
Mr.Derage, Danny, Casey, and JoJo all turned and gave me weird looks. "Fine then you can go wait with Danny for a punishment" I nodded and walked out with Danny.
We sat down and he stared at me. "Why'd ya do that?" He asked wide-eyed. Thinking about it, I wasn't sure why myself.
"Guess it's just my nature." I shrugged and looked at the ceiling. It's not as if I haven't got into trouble before, happens all the time. Danny smiled and turned to face me, what was he doing.
I realized he wasn't blinking. I got the idea and stared also. Staring contest were always fun, who wouldn't enjoy a good staring contest. This went on for about six minutes before I blinked. Danny's smile grew wider as he held out a hand. "Your all right Rikki." He announced. I wasn't sure what he meant but I took his hand and shook it.
All of a sudden the school began to shake. I was flung against one of the walls while Danny landed head down on the floor. "I didn't know there were earthquakes in Fairden?" he said looking around once the shaking stopped.
I stood up and offered Danny a hand. "There aren't." I simply said and ran into the class room, Danny following. Everyone in the room looked freaked, well except JoJo and Casey. Looking out the window I noticed there was a white mist surrounding the school.
JoJo ran past Danny and I, seamed to be headed for the front gate. "What's he thinking?" Danny asked. I shook my head, and I ran after. It wasn't a far run and I could see JoJo.
We reached the front gate after running out of the school only, JoJo didn't see me. Outside there was a big "Thing". It looked familiar but I couldn't place it. Then a thought hit me. "That's a Lynxmon!" I said. I knew that fire-cat anywhere. How could a Digimon be here, it's just a game.
I'm about to run over to JoJo when I see him pull out a weird device. It looked like one of those toy digivices like from Digimon frontier things, but more real, it wasn't plastic. "Kudamon release!" he called. His digivices began to glow white and before I knew a weird weasel like creature was in front of him. It was white except it had a gold ring around it's neck.
I couldn't move, those were Digimon. That was JoJo, and he just called out a Digimon. I tried to speak but couldn't. All I could do was watch.
Kudamon rolled into a ball and jumped throwing himself as Lynxmon like a bowling ball. He hit the flames, but burst back, standing hopping around. "Hot. Hot. Hot." It called jumping around holding his tail. I wanted to laugh, inside I was, but my physical form wouldn't laugh. I wasn't even sure I was breathing.
I stared on as Kudamon tried time after time to hit Lynxmon but each time got burned. Suddenly I heard a voice. "Ow, stop moving around so much. Ow, hey I'm trying to unhook myself!" I heard it but wasn't sure where it was coming from. I turned to Lynxmon. Something was hanging off it's side.
I squinted closer with my eyes to see what it was. Another Digimon! Looking over I saw that Kudamon was now in the air and about to land a hit on the little Digimon. It scared me. Seeing that, I ran out towards the two Digimon. Lynxmon looked angry and shot a fire bolt towards me I jumped to the side, spun and kept running.
When I was close enough I turned behind him and looked at the Digimon. It needed help. Apparently it got it's ear stuck on Lynxmon by some kind of...It looked like a giant paperclip! "Oh do you need help?" I asked concerned. The little Digimon turned to me and frowned.
"Yes,. Oh yes please help me, I'm stuck." I nodded and bent down trying to remove the paperclip from the side of Lynxmon. Once I didn't think that was going anywhere I stopped. "Try just pulling me out!" the Digimon said. Again I nodded and bent for the Digimon. As soon as I came in contact with it's ear a blinding white light surveyed the area. I grabbed hold of the Digimon as the light flunk me and it backwards.
We hit the wall hard, and I was unconscious. The last thing I remember was hearing someone yell, "Rikki!"
So what do you think?
