Pretty much. And that's why schools don't let students use it as a resource. XD;

The internet is too trusting..
Um yeah, That's crappy, yet my school still allows that but blocks PC ;;

She meant that you ain't allowed to use it in assignments and reports :<

Anywho, my only use for Wikipedia is as a general source for background information.

Then I just go to the sources that should be at the bottom and look at them myself.

And besides, there are plenty of other sources on the internet. They're all just annoying to find ;_;

I remember the days when I used to actually sit down with a book and write notes from there. God that was so boring! XD

Thats one problem about wikipedia, someone edits it and throws the whole thing off when someone wants to research something.

Yeah, same case with me. If I need to look up a quick fact or something, I always use Wiki.

Research on the internet is such a pain. I'd much rather go to the library and look for a book or use EBSCOhost to look up magazine or newspaper articles.

My school let's us use wiki. o o; Some guy totally failed a project because of it though...

xDD One time, I saw someone had edited the Naruto article:

"Sakura is completely in love with Naruto and they have three kids."

I fell off of my seat laughing. [/because I'm lame like that]

I understand that, I'm just saying they should block the site just to prevent the students from using it anyways.

Eh I'd go to the library if I could be bothered, but my school one ain't all that fantastic. And there is just some information that is just so much easier for me to get from the internet (like primary sources for anicent history). EBSCO is always good for magazines or newspaper articles though.

But there's nothing actually wrong with the site in terms of morals and such. It's just not a suitable source.

Other sites, such as flash games, youtube and in your case, PC, are blocked cause they don't want you students wasting your time and their money visiting.

Fortunately for me, we can still visit all them sites at our school XD

No idiot would use Wikipedia when it's widely known that it's not acceptable in school. I mean, you'd have to cite your sources and show that you used Wikipedia, resulting in a bad grade. There's nothing wrong with using it for leisure though. =\

Ah, yeah. My high school's library was nothing special either. We have multiple libraries at my university though, and they're all stacked. XD

Actually, their stupid reason for blocking them is because they have nudity. Where the hell is the naked section at PC? Seriously, it's plain stupid to block something if they assume it has nudity and allow youtube, which would have a greater chance of nudty appearing.

I can almost acess all, except I can only read PC's archives. Not like I have anything else to do for a half an hour except reading though what everyone has posted during the course of that day.

And Fuz- But the students still do use it in most of their assignments anyway.

I use wiki for background information on assignments. I'll read up on what it says so I know what I'm talking about and then I'll either research elsewhere from there, or follow the source links at the bottom.

My school doesn't really allow online resources in many departments, so usually I have to use books anyway. :\

That's a shame. EBSCO isn't really an online source though, so I don't know why they'd block it. All the sources within are from actual hard documents.

I don't trust Wikipedia one bit. Funny, because my friend thinks he's a know it all because he reads Wikipedia.

You're all lucky you go on the internet in school. To go along with that, I only get Gym dodgeball games one every 3 months. It's fun (hehehe....).

I used to sit there in computer science just hitting "random" on wiki all period. And I know Jorge and I spent a good...three hours? We were hitting random pages on the Japanese Wikipedia.

XD It's so addictive. Even if you shouldn't trust everything you read, I can't help but just...surf around that site for ages at a time. o__o

Nica, they block almost everything at school. It doesnt matter if it is nudity, if want to they can. They dont really want you to spend your time inside all day, searching on sites or watching vids from Youtube. E.g. at my school, all gaming, video, email etc. sites have been blocked from student access simply to keep numbers using the Computer labs down. Also we have a 100GB bandwith, which would easily be run over if people were continously watching vids every month, and that's not to mention what teachers do in their time!!

Depends... You really can't lie about some very objective stuff. Wiki is very good for the science side of things where an equation is an equation, and you can't argue/twist any part of it. It's great for looking up definitions of scientific names as well... such as karyogamy or whatever queer terms out there in the science fields. Even if someone edits it for wrong info, it's surprisingly corrected quickly by scientist geeks.

On the other hand... don't even try for wiki with anything remotely arguable o_o;

Well, PC's the only thing that is blocked, the teachers just advise us not to go to email and that.

The teachers do in their time...hmm, for some reason I don't think I'd like to know just after having lunch.

Really? Well that's weird then. Unless a high number of people at your school comes online to PC... email is the usual, they dont like that.

Umm... well I didnt specifically mean what you're thinking...

Nah, most of the people prefer to go on Pokemon crater. I've only been able to bypass the system once to get into PC. And that was back in June or sometime around then.

Sure you didn't..x3

Oh I see. You can get through the school proxy server by using proxy bypasses websites.

I didn't, okay?

..Actually..no. Sometimes the schools internet crashes, and during that time somehow all the blocked sites aren't blocked anymore. Well..only a few pages on that site weren't blocked. That time was the highlight of my life, until, this year came.

You're confused yet again eh?
