Introduction
The thread title has a double meaning. The first one is simple: it tells you what sort of skill level you can expect. The second one is a little trickier.
Much like how you can find the true remains of whatever was inside only at the bottom of a barrel, in this thread all the pictures I post have a deeper meaning to discover. At times you need to take a deep look to find out what I actually wanted to tell in every image.
However, I'm aware that it may not be easy to look into strangers heads. Therefore I will provide you with a little context in form of text right after every picture. However, there's no guarantee that you'll find all the answers in it. I also like to sometimes leave things up to the viewer's imagination; to come up with their own conclusions. That's what art is all about.
Nonetheless, I still like to employ certain themes. That doesn't mean I'll incorporate all of them in every picture, it may not even mean that every picture has at least one of them; but at least they should give you a general idea what I'll be posting.
Such themes include:
- whimsical absurdity
- the yearning for companionship
- the dark abyss within one's self
- impending doom
While the things I post will be fairly tame stuff, viewer discretion is still advised!

There was this one dream: I was bumping into somebody else and ended up showing them some sketches. One was about a girl fighting a lich and the second one was a sort of movie poster. I ended up drawing both of them but didn't like the first one as much. This one was different however. Now: first of all, I did change up the premise of this picture. While starting off as a movie poster instead I went with a poster to some sort of beat-em-up game. After I went with a more Castlevania themed approach for the first picture, this one I decided to make it Kirby themed.
The protagonist of this fictional game is a martial artist. He loves his afro and likes to spend his free time drawing graffiti art and playing Kirby games. One day he gets transported into one of the games. As he realized that he was stuck he decided to hang out with Kirby and pals. Unfortunately an evil shadow appears and becomes a threat to the world. Who but our heroes are up to the task to defeat the evil being and bring back peace?

Probably one of the more meaningless pictures. Depicting one of my characters doing a little bit of self-defense training.
One thing to note is that I like delving into multiverse theories and incorporate this into some themes. Like having characters that are the same but from different universes. They usually have a couple things in common and differ in other aspects greatly. If these characters meet up it makes for good character growth material.

On a discord server I stumbled about a discussion on what a chibi character has to look like. So this here I made out of curiosity on what I could spontaneously throw together.
Basic shapes this picture is composed of are a rectangle for the head and a triangle for the body.

This picture shows the conflict between what we consciously want and the dark feelings deep inside. Our constant struggle to keep at bay that wants nothing but to destroy.
We hold our moral standards but the more we cling to them the more we could find ourselves being trapped in a dilemma. What if the morals we hold dear do not at all represent the greater good? If it conflicts with reality, in our doubts is it not when the darkest desires find a way to lure us the wrong way? And is it not too easy to never again find your way outside once you've made the first step?
The difficulty in differentiating what's right and what's not is reinforced by our inability to perceive their face.

According to Hegel for a person to affirm their own existence it requires another person that is capable of perceiving them.
Does that mean that a life in solitude will slowly drain away your personality until nothing remains? What's the point of an existence not perceived? Can we lose ourselves even withing the big masses that are overburdened by all the information around them?

Being a lurker on the PC discord server, especially the art channel, one person in particular tends to stick out with their artistic capabilities. I usually don't like doing character focused pictures as I prefer more complex ones that require a certain amount of context in order to be understood.
I tried anyway and this is what came out of it.
Halloween
![[PokeCommunity.com] The Bottom of the Barrel [PokeCommunity.com] The Bottom of the Barrel](https://www.dropbox.com/s/elxhuku0svdqj0e/thumb_hallo.jpg?raw=1)
This one I made in August. The reason why I bring that up is because in September stores tend to fill in as many shelves with Christmas stuff as possible. That gives off a notion of "oh no, it's almost Christmas", kinda giving of a vibe of needing to hurry up. Since Halloween comes before Christmas and August comes before September I found it appropriate of a time.
In a way it's a take on how any of the traditional festivities becoming corrupted by economic interest and the subsequent commercialisation which leads to a somewhat corrupted perception that we have in regards to those festivities.
As for the things inside this one: I just wanted it to have a vampire theme.
And the darkness looms
as the pale moon rules over
the starless night sky.
Treasure Hunt
![[PokeCommunity.com] The Bottom of the Barrel [PokeCommunity.com] The Bottom of the Barrel](https://www.dropbox.com/s/gj8cclgsjnaaqt2/thumb_treas.jpg?raw=1)
A while ago a game came out that is based on the anime series Fairy Tail. I played it, liked it and kinda got back into the series as a whole. In particular I'm a fan of Erza which is why I came up with a sorta bargain bin version of a character based on her. I then drew this one treasure hunt themed picture here with the intend on incorporating that characters. As time went on I also ended up putting in a couple of Golden Sun references like the item acquire animation and the tarzan-wannabe guy in the middle who somewhat resembles one of the characters in that franchise.

This is pretty much a summary of 2020. I usually avoid things concerning modern time politics and such as it somewhat limits my creative process. Out of all the things I showed this one actually took the longest. What makes this stuff difficult is the representation. I'm not going to hide the fact that I as a sorta recluse have no idea how humans and societies work and doing the research can be a very draining process.
There are two parts to this image: the things that happen inside the monitor and the things happening outside.
Inside the monitor you can see a bunch of girls running from an explosion. The explosion is, of course, meant to represent the current ongoing pandemic. It's made more obvious by every on of the characters in there wearing a sort of mask. I've intentionally given them all a different kind of "mask" which is more of a sort of criticism from me towards people's creativity. I think, if you have to wear a mask, you're allowed to be a little creative and come up with something interesting that can at least in part make you forget that you're wearing it because you have to and not because you want to show some individuality. Maybe people would be more willing to wear one if you could turn it into a modern fashion trend?
They're all female as a reference to modern day feminism and the still ongoing battle for equality. There's also a reference to the still ongoing struggle for individuality as every one of them represents a different (but not necessarily mutually exclusive) type of aspect that still finds itself to be trapped by outdated world views.
There's the female scientist as a reference on the underrepresentation of female authority figures, the person of color (in the biker outfit) referencing the still ongoing racism, the trans person who still faces discrimination because binary systems, the person with a mental disorder and as well as the one with a physical impairment.
The part of the image outside the monitor represents the looming dangers coming from the systems that be. On the left there's the capitalistic moneybag representing the power held by the few scrupulous being with all the riches. It's also a take on the modern game industry and all the allegations going against a lot of the higher ups that go nowhere because of power. On the right there's the representation of the oblivious masses that see their "good old lifestyle" threatened by the ever changing world: the fascist.
These two units from the unholy alliance between abusive-evil and stupid-evil. Their toast is showing their willingness to spill blood for the sake of preserving what they hold dear.
Lastly, the monitor can be interpreted in two ways. The first one is a TV, conveying that the people outside it disregard the happening as pretty much fake and overblown, like a bad movie that much like a fashion trend will soon be over.
The second one is a monitor filming the outside world. Monitoring those who actually try to do something all the while they congratulate themselves for being able to continue their exploitative deeds while nobody seems to be watching.

I messed around with some pixel art. I'm still trying to get the hang of creating color palettes.
Liligant (Samurai-Form)
Originally I was trying to make a somewhat humanoid create but ended up recognizing that what I was trying to create looked way to much like a Liligant. So I changed plans. The theme came to be when I asked myself what to do with the flower on its head. Since I was reading a book about a samurai I got the idea to go with a samurai theme.
Seliph
Based off of a reference. I'm currently still planing to do something with this character. So it's basically a test run and practice for colors etc.
Forest Lake
I was contemplating to program something in C+SDL2 and for that I needed a decent backdrop. I found a lot of good images but nothing was the way I wanted. So I took a reference and created this one. When I was done I lost interest in the programming part, though.

In comics and manga there's something called "panelling". It's basically the art of positioning the small pictures of every page. Usually people believe that there's a fixed rule on how to approach a page. Comics you just read from left to right and manga you do the other way around.
There's a big difference in approach, however. There are a few artists who focus less on static composition and more on guiding the reader from panel to panel in a more organic may. The dynamics of the pictures inside the panel are usually set up in such a way that they themselves lead the reader right to the next panel they are supposed to see.
In this page I tried to break the rules a little by trying to provide a "red thread" as well as hint the next panel with the character position. There are probably better ways, but that's for people to play around with who are a lot better in it than I am.
But you can tell me if you could easily follow the order of panels or if you were still stuck with the traditional order.

Coffee is the favorite drink for the working slave. Nothing allows them to excel in overworking themselves for their beloved corporate overload. It's the drug that exchanges life force for productivity to a limited and ever so slightly sinking degree.
Tea on the other hand is the drink of the gods. It is meant to sooth the soul, calm you down and in general allow for a splendid time. Therefore it is the objectively better beverage!
