Why doesn't Bayleef have a big role in Pokemon episodes anymore?

That's because Bayleef is one of the many poor Pokemon that Ash left behind at Oak's lab and forgot about...
Also, Bayleef is a Johto starter, making its appearances more limited to the Johto region and season.
