    [PokeCommunity.com] The Complexity Challenge!

    [a id]gs_rules[/a id]The Complexity Challenge - Introduction
Welcome to the Complexity Challenge! The idea for this challenge originated when me and my younger brother were talking about ways that the Pokemon games could be more challenging, and thus the Complexity Challenge was born! The challenge aims to increase the difficulty of the Pokemon games by imposing certain hardships upon players. Feel free to comment, make suggestions, sign up, and post updates on your challenge! All feedback is appreciated!:) **Scroll In This Column for the Basic Rules**

Be Sure to Follow the Basic Rules: No Hacking, Cheating Devices, or Stat Enhancing Items May Be Used, and your final team must consist of at least 5 Pokemon. HM Slaves may be used but may not participate in battles.

    [a id]gs_trophy[/a id]Optional Rules
Complex Nuzlocke - Combine this challenge with the first two rules of a Nuzlocke Challenge so you can only capture the first Pokemon in each area, and have to box every one of your Pokemon that faints.

Complex Egglocke - Combine this challenge with the first two rules of a Nuzlocke Challenge, but instead of only using the first Pokemon encountered in each area, only use Pokemon hatched from eggs!

Complex Monotype - Combine this challenge with the rules of a Monotype Challenge, only using Pokemon that share a common type!

**Please Keep In Mind That Even If You Choose to Use One of These Optional Sets, It Will Only Count as a Complexity Challenge, Rather than the Secondary Challenge from Which the Other Rules Were Borrowed, Unless The Other Thread Owner Is Okay With You Posting Your Updates In Their Thread As Well As Here**

Hey! I really want to sign up to this challenge and was wondering if we are able to play hacked versions of the games? Just ones such as Blaze Black, Sacred Gold etc? If so, please consider me all signed up!

Just a couple of quick questions,

1: Once you enter the E4/Pokemon League do your pokemon have to remain under the level of the 8th gym?

2: Can this challenge be completed on Emerald without having to defeat Steven as it's not really meaningful or apart of the storyline? Also if no to the first question what level are you allowed to get your pokemon to before taking on steven? As it seems a bit silly trying to take him on with level 40's.

    First of all, Wonder Guard.

Secondly, I see that you mentioned that once you hit the 8 badge cap you can level past the cap once inside the Pokemon League. Does a similar concept apply the gym fights? Like, say I have a team of Lv. 10s going into the Brock fight, is it still valid if someone hits 11 during the fight?

Thanks in advance, this seems like a really cool concept :)

Yeah if your Pokemon level past their level cap during a Gym Battle, they are still usable. If you lose the fight after your Pokemon leveled up, however, you would have to box it before challenging the gym leader again because it exceeds the level cap. For example,

You challenge Brock with a level 10 Squirtle, it defeats Geodude and progresses to level 11. Then, Onix is sent in and it defeats your Squirtle. Squirtle would have to be boxed before you can re-challenge Brock, but it can be re-obtained after you earn your badge because the level cap would be increased with said badge. If you won the battle the first time, it wouldn't need to be boxed (unless you somehow exceed the next level cap XD)

    Hope I answered your question.

    Responses to your questions:
1-When you enter the Pokemon League, the Pokemon must be within their level restrictions, however, if they level up during your battles at the Pokemon League, you can still use them, because there is no way to box them afterwards and you will most likely earn a lot of experience at the Pokemon league. So if your level limit is 42, you can't enter the league with Pokemon over level 42, but if those Pokemon happen to level up during the league, they are still usable.

    2. I guess I could change the Steven thing since it really isn't related to the story. I'll update the thread:)

    This sounds really difficult :O

I was thinking of updating the challenge with a new rule (or two) but I can't remember what I wanted to add .-.

& Good luck to the other challengers! You guys must be crazy to try the Complex Nuzlocke, I'm afraid to try it myself lol:)

    ...really?

Maybe I should edit the level limits a little more...lol I may add difficulties so that your level limits depend on your difficulty. I have to edit it more, still a work in progrees^_^

Or, since all games are different, I could make a different level list for each game. What do you think? I'm open to suggestions.

EDIT: I've created a new level system that keeps the challenge difficult but not outrageous like before. There are also two modes now: Expert Mode & Normal Mode. I will update the first post soon so you guys can see the newly updated rules. You will not have to restart your run if you signed up before the updates were made, just follow the new rules for whatever mode you choose when I update it (Expert or Normal) :)

EDIT #2: That took a lot longer than expected...but I updated the rules so the limitations are a bit better. Let me know what you guys think. I'll probably start working on my challenge tomorrow and post an update. Just been so busy lately >.< Hope you guys are enjoying your challenge runs! Feel free to take a look at the updated level limitations:)
